Drawing in?

Yes the dread of the dark nights always spoils autumn for me.

I actually see the solar lights on in the garden now before I go to bed.

I don't remember when I was young worrying about dark nights and mornings.
Is it an age thing??

I always know when it is getting darker as my OH has to mention it all the time. "only 10.30 and getting dark already" (we are in the north of Scotland, so get more daylight at this time of year). In May it is "10.30 and it is still light'. I have been known to scream to myself that it is the same every year.

morethan I am so sorry and again I don't have the right words except to say come and talk to us when you can and hopefully we can offer some comfort and suppport.

In respect of the nights drawing in I notice I'm putting the living room lights on in the evening now. I hate the winter to so am hoping we get a mild autumn of which I thought I detected a tang in the air yesterday here. I am glad of the darker mornings though I hate waking up at 4am and not being able to go back to sleep as its daylight.

DH loves to spend a late summer evening sitting in the garden watching the bats fly over. The last couple of years they have been getting less and less, this year there have been hardly any. Wonder where they have all gone. The evenings are certainly drawing in, don't look forward to the winter now we are older it brings so many problems. NottoOld it's the daddy long legs I hate this time of year. They get everywhere, when I walk the dogs they are in the grass and they fly out at you. If they are in the house and I try to get them out their legs seem to fall off!!

What happened to sitting outside throughout a summer's evening, batting away the occasional moth?

Yes, definitely getting darker. We've had so few long, light and warm evenings this Summer. Now I'm starting to dread the spider season which will be upon us soon. I hate the little bu***rs.

Oh blimey, Daphne, I was trying to say I supported your post. Left some words out that make all the difference. Not being critical at all, don't we get ourselves in a muddle sometimes? Memo to self, be more considered and try to make sense. No hope for me .

I too will keep a look out this evening Daphne so no offence was taken. One of the things I've learnt the last few months is that the ordinary can't stop because something extraordinary is happening . We still have to live our ordinary lives. Once when I was dreadfully upset my husband said to me " yes it's worse than horrible and yes she's going to die but before that she's got to live and so have we" so we talk about the mundane, the silly and even the down right boring. We laugh and joke. We even talk about our own silly aches and pains with her. Perhaps now our family realise how extraordinary and important the ordinary is. Fingers crossed for her next big hurdle. She's a fighter and she's determined to carry on for her children. I've just waved goodbye to my sister and niece. I always feel a bit maudlin saying 'goodbye' it never last though because now I've got to tidy up after their stay and the busy but lovely week we had keeping the little uns entertained.

Daphne I don't think you need to be embarrassed. I think people will understand your post. I hadn't noticed it getting dark earlier, I will make note tonight.

Hope I was clear that I felt I was being trivial - nobody else
I recognise that for many reasons Autumn/winter is a long dark spell and I was really only being flippant

Often think about you all morethan, I also don't have the words, but then perhaps there aren't any. Can only send virtual hugs. Daphne, no it's not trivial, the darkness impacts many so badly, somehow in our part of the world we are having a very grey summer, I get so envious of those with , Don't feel bad. Hope today is lighter for all.

Thanks DahneBroon I know but it's bad enough living with the fall out of emotion and the physical aspects of looking after the the little ones more often. I often haven't the energy to post or talk about it. The secondary bone cancer is responding well but the primary is getting worse she's due a mastectomy any day. I'm so upset about it because she only just been able to start leading a normalish life for a few weeks after being housebound for the last six months and now this. She just soaks up every smile/ laugh she sees the children have. She only been able to hold them close for a month and now that will be denied her and them for a while. Horrible isn't it.

morethan2 you have been very quiet on that recently - just to say we have not forgotten you. Here is some for you to stash away for any (literally or metaphorically ) darker days in the future

NO DaphneBroon NO I really hate the lack of light in winter I get depressed. I'm a bit worried about coping this winter on top of the shitty awful time my families having. I expect I'll be whining and moaning on here about it very very soon. So I apologise now before it happens.
