Hello all,

I'm going round in circles here! Even Google isn't helping.

On the English Water Hardness scale, is the higher the number the harder the water, or the other way round?

Thank you!

I’ve googled that Bristol has very hard water with a reading of 307 and Bath has hard water with a reading of 232. Does that help?

The higher the number (which represents the amount of calcium) the harder the water.

Thanks for raising this. I wasn't aware you could look up your water hardness or lack of. Very useful info.

Blinko I knew I was in a soft water area, but didn't know how the numbers related to it, iykwim.

You can also buy hard water testers, useful as there remain some small local variations.

i actually prefer hard water.
when i've been ooop north my hands never feel as if they are rinsed of soap properly. i find it annoying.
guess it depends what you're used to.

I'm going round in circles here
You're obviously in a whirlpool! Tell me , are you going clockwise or anti? They say that it's different between the two Hemispheres! grin
Actually you'll find the hardest water at either of the Poles!
Hope that helps!

Phoenix This page has a lot of info and an interactive map. You put in your postcode. www.aquacure.co.uk/knowledge-base/uk-hard-water-map

Thanks to all who posted, much appreciated!

I knew I was in a sofwater area, but needed to know the numbers so that I could set the thingy on the dishwasher, so that why I asked if it was higher the number, harder the water, or vice versa!

All sorted now ?

“Oop north” ?? As opposed to “darn sowf”

Hard water tastes nicer.

I knew we were in a soft water area, but DSs and their families are in a very hard water area. I've sent them a link so they'll be able to look it up.
