I’ve never understood the fascination with Barn Owls as I’ve never found them as beautiful as eg Tawny Owls. But I’ve just spent a couple of nights watching one flying over the dunes in the early evening and it totally took my breath away. Really need to get some better binoculars and a better camera though.

I found one a couple of years ago lying in grass. I carried it to the nearest vets in the hope he could save it but no luck. But it was beautiful.

It was almost surreal watching it gliding over the ground.

They are my favourite, so beautiful. I saw a stuffed one as a child and the feathers on its front were so fluffy and soft. I fell in love with it! That was a very long time ago. You are so lucky to see it flying.

Someone in my bird watching group posted an amazing photo of a Barn Owl. I’ve looked through my photos and there’s only one that shows a tiny white blob in the distance.

There are always barn owls where we walk by one of the rivers. At dusk,

What gets me is how quiet they are in flight.

Whitewavemark2. An owl has feathers on the leading edge of it's wings. This allows the owl to fly silently. Beautiful birds.

We have one that hunts in the meadows nearby, they need a very large area of grassland to survive, many get hit by cars hunting in the roadside verges.
