Now the election is over, let us talk about something else - like the weather!

Last night our indoor/outdoor thermometer registered an outdoor temperature of 11.2 C. I went back into my winter nightwear and put the electric blanket on for a few minutes.

This morning it was not much higher and the internal temperature was dropping close to the point (18.5C) where the CH automatically turns on - and it has been raining, it's been pouring, the old man....... not to mention the wind that is decimating my walnut tree and the rain has brought down a large branch of the buddliea.

Last night the rain was so heavy it woke me up hammering on the roof of our single storey extension.

I’m in bed, listening to the rain hammering on the windows.

Well , I can be very positive about today. Woke up horribly early because my back was so painful, but turned it to my advantage by going swimming very early. They have a chair to put me in the water so that is very good. i was in the water by 7am, it felt a beautiful temperature and it is lane swimming at that time in the morning. Well I go in the slowest lane, as it is more about being able to stretch out and be in less pain then how many lengths I can do. So a few people in my lane but then they all got out and had a lovely swim in the lane all to myself. Then got out and went and had a little time in the sauna, and then it takes me a time to get dressed. But then went off to Cafe Nero, where they had some lovely classical music on , I was able to get a comfortable seat and enjoy my coffee. and had my poetry book by Jackie Kay to read. It was quite sunny out too. Had a look in the charity shops, and got a couple of books from them and some fruit from the market and came home. Well I know that doesnt look very exciting but for me it was a great day, enjoyed my swim and my coffee and that it helped with the pain, so can only hope for another day like that again!

Good for _some- plants and trees. Agricultural production is going to be well down this year and my vegetable garden is a disaster area.

Read a letter in a paper today of someone boasting (ironically) about having finally got his tomato and aubergine seeds to germinate, when, in most year, with care, he would normally be eating the first of the years tomato harvest.

DH and I also have had awful colds for a week. We went out briefly this morning for a walk, then the rain started. Now thundering. The brook at the end of our garden is like a torrent, but then, it hasn’t dried up in the 18 years we’ve lived here. The rain is good for the plants and trees,so I don’t really mind. Better than drought. And both water butts are full again.

Good point about the plants and trees. A few years ago the water butts dried up because of the heat and drought. It was hard, back breaking work lugging watering cans as, needless to say, we had a hosepipe ban.

Siope

I glimpsed some blue sky at 6am.

I almost died of shock, but fortunately it vanished before I was entirely overwhelmed.

🤣🤣🤣

Joseann when my brother in law posts whatsapp pictures of his dog romping across the sunny south Devon fields this morning . . .

Yes, Devon is a huge county (the biggest?). Weather can vary all over. I had to wear my waterproof coat.

Blue sky and sunshine here with little drifts of white cloud. Have had 3 birds come in to the house at different times. They are difficult to get out because Zelie is very interested in them so I shut the two of us into one room and leave the front door open hoping the last bird will fly out.

Several butterflies now. Everything is still very green and lots of wild flowers including wild scabious.

The last three days the weather forecast has said heavy showers. Not one. Lovely here today in SW Wales and quite warm too. Though rain this afternoon. So they say !!!

maddyone Mon 08-Jul-24 10:35:09

Horrible grey, dull weather here this morning. It’s forecast to rain later.

Sunny here today thankfully as I need to go and put some washing out to dry. Annuals in pots in my yard looking bright after a good drenching yesterday.

Your over enthusiastic dog must be further north than mine in Devon Mollygo. It's raining in Devon and set in for the day. Wet dog is not a good smell round the house either, but my newest addition's coat dries off the minute he shakes himself? He's really glossy. Wish my hair were like that!

Mollygo Mon 08-Jul-24 07:07:30

It’s been beautiful sunshine here since my 6am start, thanks to our over enthusiastic dog. Long may the sunshine last.

Our spring flowering clematis is blooming again 🙂

The fuschias, penstemons, and other plants and bushes are flowering well but the roses seem to be over and need deadheading.

Lucyd Sun 07-Jul-24 22:04:20

Hardly any of my fuchsias are blooming and only one of my geraniums has a sign of a bud on it! Usually they would have been a riot of colour weeks ago. Summer is definitely late in coming to South West Scotland. Left for work this morning and it was dull, twenty minutes later the heavens opened. Wind blowing and sky dark. By mid afternoon sun shining and I was cutting the grass at 7pm when it was pleasantly warm. Dry day forecast for tomorrow so washing out but rain all day on Tues and Wed when I have my wee grand daughter. Indoor play centre will be heaving as Scottish schools on holiday and it will be too wet to go to the outdoor areas she prefers. Will be digging out the big outdoor cushions so we can build some dens in the sitting room and make a mini assault course (for her, not me!)

We have had sun rain thunder rain sun rain now it’s just clear

JaneJudge Sun 07-Jul-24 21:46:07

The weather has been weird here all day and now it’s really humid and I feel red hot

Witzend Sun 07-Jul-24 21:40:42

Torrential rain, thunder and lightning here earlier.: Sunny by early evening though.
I put the electric blanket on last night, and have been wearing my sheepskin house boots nearly all day, and I’m back in my ‘winter’ cosy jeggings. Summer things haven’t had much wear yet, except for a week or so ago when it was positively hot for a while.

Another cold, wet, rainy day. and we are now nearer Christmas 2024 than Christmas 2023.

M0nica !!

That reminded me of my unfinished Nativity set knitting project languishing in the cupboard under the stairs!

Callistemon213 Sun 07-Jul-24 21:31:02

It has been a lovely late afternoon and evening here 😯

Casdon Sun 07-Jul-24 21:30:17

This could turn into the hole in the road Monty Python sketch. We have rain here from 10am. Next week looks grim again, and my sweet pepper has given up the ghost.

M0nica Sun 07-Jul-24 21:22:36

Rekarie you clearly live nowhere near me. Our forecast is dry until 3.00pm - and iht rains for the rest of the day, maximum temperature: 17 degrees.

Oreo

Namsnanny

Does your house smell of stale beer....
I think you've proved my point HPQueen🤣🤣🤣

Oreo Do you think my humble abode would be to his taste?
It seems to me he likes the high life whenever possible.

Although, if he brought a few acquaintances around, it could make for a very interesting evening.
Might make a change from the dinner conversation with MrNams😄

😂well he always says he’s a man of the people so I imagine he’ll be happy in your humble abode Namsnanny just insist he smokes in the garden and don’t let him put his feet up on the coffee table.

Judging by his habits in the jungle, he seems very civilized, and quite neat. He might even decide to take a bath? gringringrin

Namsnanny Sun 07-Jul-24 20:44:08

Do you know, now I'm not at work, and having to scurry out of the door on the dark mornings.
Or longing to do something in the garden after work, only to find it's too dark, I really don't care about the weather.

Yes it's a talking point which is great, because it's always changing.

I'm very glad I can put the fire on as I please, even if it is in July grin
