It looks terrifying, I hope the predicted landslides and flash flooding don’t result in deaths, and that the devastation is minimal.

It looks terrifying. If any of us have family over there, I hope they are ok.

Scary stuff I ve only once been in a hurricane and it was terrifying and nothing like as bad as this one
Poor people I really feel for them and hope beyond hope they are all safe

Yes we were caught in a hurricane in Florida with out two youngest children, scary, but no where near as severe as this one is expected to be.

Why on earth were airlines still flying in tourists to Jamaica when this hurricane has been forecast for at least the last five days?

When you see some of the makeshift homes in the Caribbean, they don't look as though they'd withstand a gusty wind, let alone something of this magnitude.

I don't know that the infrastructure of some of these Caribbean islands can provide any substantive support for people who will inevitably lose their homes and belongings.
It must be very frightening.

I really hope for the best for everyone there and in the countries it hits afterwards.

I hope everyone takes the best shelter they can - there were some people being interviewed who were carrying on working and saying they would be ok....I know they still need to earn money but not at the risk of their life?

Grandmabatty Tue 28-Oct-25 16:09:57

I've just watched a film of it. The power of the wind is intense

How frightening. How on earth do people survive this . Surely no property can remain standing. Poor souls

AmberGran Tue 28-Oct-25 15:42:24

Absolutely awful. Heading up to Cuba and parts of the Bahamas now.

It's reported as likely to be the worst storm ever, not just this year. I cannot imagine how the Jamaicans are feeling, it must be petrifying.

keepingquiet Tue 28-Oct-25 12:33:42

Must be truly frightening when there is no where to go. I hear the Cubans are better prepared for when it gets there.
Praying for Jamaica.

Maremia Tue 28-Oct-25 12:16:20

Worst storm this year. Hope they can shelter in place.

Grandmabatty Tue 28-Oct-25 11:27:26

I agree. It sounds absolutely horrendous for people. I hope there is adequate shelter around

Category 5

Hurricane Melissa is due to hit Jamaica any time soon and already seven lives have been lost, there, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

It is a Category and supposedly the worst storm in 174 years with winds of 175 mph expected and up to 40 inches of rain.

I hope everyone can find shelter and there is no more loss of life. It sounds just horrendous.
