On my walk today I,
(57 Posts)Skirted my way around muddy puddles.
Met a man out walking his dog, he was holding on to his hat as he didn't want the wind to blow it into the burn.
I saw forget-me-nots, dandelions and daisies, gorse in full bloom and king cups in a marshy field.
I watched sand martins flying beside the river and bees collecting pollen from the wayside flowers.
I heard a blackbird singing and a chiff-chaff calling.
They all brought me such joy. It was lovely to be out in nature.
Gran22boys I just want to say thanks again for recommending the Merlin app it brilliant. Its added 17 birds to my life list in a couple of weeks just walking near home, today surprised me with a Ring Necked Pheasant a Buzzard and Long Tailed Tit I was impressed.
Also took a walk the other day to our local bluebell wood the smell was so lovely.
Me & spaniel walked round local lake, it was joyous. Halfway round there were a couple of proud Canada geese taking their 8 goslings out for a walk on the grass. A little further round, there were 5 mallard ducklings rooting arouond in the strem, under mum's watchful eye.
Only sinister note was Mr Heron on his tree at the far end - known not to be averse to a duckling, gosling or two.
I'm rooting for the little ones to make it through.
Can’t post photo for some reason.
I admired the river (that was my excuse for stopping for a breather 😁)
Today, on the way back from being pummelled by my chiropractor this afternoon, I passed a field full of lambs and their mummies. The first lambs I’ve seen this year. It made me smile. As it was a quiet road, I stopped the car for a few minutes and enjoyed the scene.
And all the other photos too!
Thanks for posting, that's so beautiful! Also dragonfly46.
Vibrant blossom and the ancient willow tree in the churchyard yesterday. Then more blossom, brooding skies and a host of golden dandelions in the park this morning. It’s so good to see everything springing back to life. If only my poor back would join the party!
My daughter and i took a walk through a local Bluebell wood, it took my breath away its so beautiful , with the birds singing, dappled sunlight and soft breeze we just sat on a log and took it all in for a while.
This kind of gentle and beautiful thread is what Gransnet does so well. Thank you all.
I've not seen a field of bluebells for absolute years, so these lovely photos have brought back happy memories of me with Mum and Dad walking through the bluebells.
Now my old boy has returned from his Scottish jaunt I’m able to enjoy a wee wander a bit further from home. So we walked around our local nature reserve yesterday, with bluebells and birdsong all around. It was good for my soul as well as my poor aching back.
Thanks for starting this lovely cheering thread, MiniMoon
Yes, I too think they are erythroniums a.k.a. trout lilies.
I think they’re a species of erythroniums - a kind of lily.
Lovely uplifting post everyone. Beautiful small bluebell wood for me on Thursday with a friend who was visiting. So uplifting- sorry, I’ve used the word twice! Also cowslips and celandines. Loved the mention of ladies smocks - a favourite from childhood, not seen any yet this year, or for a while come to think of it. Everything’s so early - bluebells and cowslips not usually until May. The icing on the cake would be the cuckoo. Anyone heard it yet?
I have just downloaded the Merlin app. Wow!! Thanks to those who suggested it. Standing in my garden it picked up blackbird (very vocal at the moment), robin, blue tit and great tit, house sparrow and dunnock, chaffinch and even a Canada goose. It must have very good 'ears' to pick up the latter because I couldn't hear that at all. I am looking forward to doing a walk to our local bluebell wood later today because I shall find out what birds are singing on the way there.
On my walk today I decided to do around of the tree lined avenues where I live. The gardens and trees are well established and, as you walk past them, wallflowers, blue bells and pink Japanese cherry blossom greets you. But, the best part of the walk was a lady with her granddaughter who must have been about two. She had a little basket and was sitting down picking up the little blossoms which had fallen off the tree and putting them in her basket. I came back about twenty minutes later and she was still sitting there with grandma patiently waiting while she explored every little leaf. She showed me a little bud in her tiny fingers and grandma said: I think she is going to be a botanist. I answered: Are you putting that in your little basket? It was a lovely scene. Such a sweet child.
I’ve a very sore back and so my old boy has been away in Scotland visiting his brothers without me. Meanwhile I’ve been walking round the block to keep moving. This glorious camellia in a front garden further along my road made me
. Then I arrived back home and looked at the rather weedy looking specimen in my own front garden!
I love the word Burn it has such a gentle sound.
We just have a small park near us but could still hear the birdsong and evidence of nests being built. There were 3 flowering cherry trees in full bloom. Unfortunately, the high winds were whipping many of the petals down but they looked like beautiful confetti which was appropriate as we were going to our nieces wedding this afternoon. The council were granted some money and they have planted 6 more trees and even though very young they were starting to flower.
We just have a small patch of bluebells fortunately this year no one had picked them and the Daisies and Dandelions looked lovely.
Nature is wonderful.
Mcm5 you're welcome. Glad that it brought you some happiness!
