Remember The 1976 Minister for Drought?

I remember 76 well a dry winter then blazing hot early in June dry until the second week in September, we were much less prepared than this year.

I had a text message today from Thames Water telling us of a hosepipe ban. It did say that people on the priority register won't be expected to adhere to it, as with a disability you aren't expected to have to lift a heavy watering can etc for safety reasons.

My friend is a carer for her 97 year old dad. He can’t get out of a chair or bed without support, and needs constant attention, extremely frail.

He qualifies for exemption from the ban (not the Thames region), but only him, so my friend, late 60’s, isn’t eligible to water his garden with a hose.

She has plenty to do just looking after him, let alone making helping in the garden more difficult.

I remember on Nationwide they filmed some people who dressed up as Native Americans, or perhaps they actually were native Americans, and they did a rain dance. It was all very silly.

I am sure we were on holiday in Devon. I remember plagues of ladybirds 🐞

Perhaps my husband and I should go on holiday as we always manage to make it rain. Ended a draught in Weston-super-Mare and Cornwall. They should hire us out.

We were in the Midlands last w/e & it was tinder-dry. No rain since. No significant rain forecast for next week.
