Some possible additions to the format?

Evening all,

As some threads go dormant for a while, (or, to be more honest, I sometimes can't remember if I've looked at or commented on a particular one!) does anyone think that it might be helpful to show the name of the thread starter and the date it was first posted beneath the title?

We can all see the name and date that relates to the most recent post, but not it's origins.

What do you think?

I still would like to be able to see who the thread was started by, and when, I don't think it's making it more complicated at all!

Hi folks,

About editing posts. The reason we don't have an 'edit post' function is because it allows people to 'change history' as it were, making a nonsense of the boards - so JosieGransnet says something, CariGransnet disagrees, and JosieGransnet can then edit her post to make it so that CariGransnet doesn't disagree with it any more.

(Can you imagine the fuss at GNHQ that day shock)

As some people have pointed out, you can always post again to clarify/correct. As well as using the preview button.

We also (generally) think simplicity is key, as some people have pointed out. But do keep your opinions coming in - welcome as always!

Oh, I see. Don't use other forums. I find it's rather fun to try and guess from the title who started a thread. I'm quite good at guessing jingle ones! Can't think why! wink

No, phoenix wasn't suggesting showing the whole OP - just the name of the thread-starter and the date it was started. A lot of other forums do that.

Some OPs take up a whole page. Showing them where threads are listed would cause more of a problem than it would solve, I think.

Yes, quite. I suppose phoenix means that you actually have to call up the thread to see the OP. When it's listed you only see the subject and the last poster.

I'm not sure I understand! I have the newest comments showing first so as soon as there is more than a page of comments, the opening post shows at the top ('highlighted' in blue) and is followed by the latest post. If I want to read (or re-read) and whole thread I press the 'show all' button. Seems simple and effective enough to me already.

I just think the beauty of GN is the simplicity of the forum pages - easy to use. If you start cluttering it up with too many knobs and buttons it could put newcomers off.
