In response to gransnetters' requests we're about to set up a network of local sites all over the country. We would love to hear what you'd like to see on your local site. Opportunities to meet up, perhaps, or where to find a good plumber? Do let us have your suggestions.

I thought the same elegran

So did I, but decided I was not extrovert enough to do it justice.

I fully intended to apply to set up a local site, but what with starting a new job 3 weeks ago, and taking on a bit more baby-minding short-term, I sort of missed the deadline. Guess I've missed the boat?

Maybe a sort of noticeboard/thread for each area to post items. Then any other netters could have input.

smile re care homes. We regularly drive past one and I tell dd that's where I want to go, because a huge sign says it's Outstanding. Like that would be enough to go on...

Love the idea of local surrogate grandparenting. It would need to be pretty well organised. Maybe a Gransnet/Mumsnet joint venture? Wouldn't that be great?

Re the bookclub - it could work like this. Imagine we had say 10-20 Gransnet bookclubs around the country, each with say 10 members. When a publisher had a book club type book coming out, they could send 100-200 copies out to book club leaders - or direct to GNHQ - so that the clubs could read and discuss it.

There could then be a webchat with the author - which would go well, because of a known pool of 100-200 Gransnetters who had already read and discussed the book.

That's a good idea!

Recommendations (or otherwise!!) for residential/care homes. Failing that, we could ask if anyone has any experience of ones we are considering.

My idea maybe a little unusual but maybe your local site and some of your members would like to help those children who are unfortunate and have no grand parents. Like surrogate grandparents
My child is 3 and is missing out on the enrichment that grand parents bring.
I can not write much more now or I shall be in trouble with my lovely girl, who has a very happy home life.
I remember my 1 grand father fondly and the many things he helped me with in life, his guidance love and support was priceless.
My child will not have this not my fault I know but PLEASE CONSIDER THIS.
if anybody else has ideas I would welcome them.

This isn't the right thread, moleswife. Start a new one if you wish.

I live the SE London area that has had an Administrator installed into the local NHS Trust - this is of major concern to us all as users and possible losers - we don't want to demoralize NHS staff any more than they already are so we need some of the facts behind the issues as well as local Gransnet opinions. Ours is the first but many others will follow before April 2014 when they must all become Foundation Trusts.

Also, how about a Voluntary Work board? Eg:

Volunteers needed for playgroup in Church Street, 2 hours every Friday afternoon

Experienced admin person available for voluntary work on Wednesday mornings

etc

I think it would be great to feature local campaigns - in keeping with our logo! grin

They could include things like: Don't close our library; keep our footpath open; more toilets in the town centre...

maryjane Thu 19-Jul-12 17:16:59

Netmums have local sites and I think it works well. How about local For Sale boards? Also local shop reccommendations?

ollibee Wed 18-Jul-12 15:25:31

How many local sites are being proposed? And where? Would they be based on large cities, or one per county - has anyone thought through the details yet?

I agree Anagram .. it could all get very messy if members were asked to use a second identity to mask their first .. I do feel it would all be quite useless too.

glammanana Mon 16-Jul-12 11:20:18

glass there is every possibility that I would forget what my new identity was hmm
