Ana Mon 31-Dec-12 12:41:46

Elegran! shock What a graphic and unexpected description...I feel quite faint...wink

Elegran Mon 31-Dec-12 12:27:52

I always thought the V sign was a kind of symbolic "F* you" with two fingers shoved up where they are not wanted then forced apart for emphasis and extra pain.

It is the first letter of Victory, and Beethoven Fifth Symphony (da da da daaa) was played by the BBC before broadcasts to occupied France.

It is sometimes explained as the two fingers which draw back a bow with the arrow between them (*Bags"? ) as used by English archers as they trounced the French at Agincourt, or the horns of a cuckold - but the cuckold sign was with the index finger and pinkie, so I don't believe that.

'course it does sweetie. (ruffles petallus's hair)

Ella46 Mon 31-Dec-12 11:33:33

petallus definitely needed a 'halo' there! grin

petallus Mon 31-Dec-12 11:28:21

Why isn't the V okay?

It means 'peace' doesn't it?

Nelliemoser Mon 31-Dec-12 11:18:00

I want a feeling grumpy emoticon!

Is the "sticky tongue out" meant to be rude or jokey? That would be bound to cause offence to someone. wink

Gally Mon 31-Dec-12 10:40:46

I'm not, although that might change in 2013 wink

jO5 Mon 31-Dec-12 10:39:37

I am very good.

Gally Mon 31-Dec-12 10:37:38

Definitely a 'Sticky out tongue' emoticon and a 'Tut' one as well - I do a lot of tutting grin Give the halo a miss - none of us are angels (are we?)

jO5 Mon 31-Dec-12 10:37:32

Oh, don't be timid! It's fun. smile

petallus Mon 31-Dec-12 10:35:56

Meant to put a grin

petallus Mon 31-Dec-12 10:35:36

j05 I wasn't making you alone responsible for the fame of the V.

Also other posts meant generally so I should have said 'one' instead of 'you' to make that clear.

But if I say 'one' I feel a bit pretentious.

Anyway I love swearing and making rude gestures, usually only to DH but sometimes in my car when I have been overtaken by road rage.

I'd sometimes like to do it on GN but am too timid.

jO5 Mon 31-Dec-12 10:16:29

We need a halo emoticon too. Just for me.

jO5 Mon 31-Dec-12 10:16:01

If I say anything I regret afterwards, I say sorry in good old fashioned words.

jO5 Mon 31-Dec-12 10:14:45

Famous?!!! How often have I done it? shock blush

That's an "any port in a storm thing" grin

petallus Mon 31-Dec-12 10:12:57

And then maybe a 'peace' one to say sorry, I didn't mean it?

petallus Mon 31-Dec-12 10:12:25

For when you are feeling more annoyed than mischievous.

petallus Mon 31-Dec-12 10:11:56

What about the famous V?

jO5 Mon 31-Dec-12 09:59:29

I think we should get a tongue-sticky-out emoticon. It would be really useful. You could just do it, and leave the thread. Good idea eh? smile

Gally wants it too.
