An embarrassment of riches?

I gave up reading Mumsnet because there were just too many posts and I couldn't be bothered reading through them all.
I notice that GN has been very busy recently, and I am now finding it a bit of a chore to scroll through all the threads.
Are we in danger of being overwhelmed by our own success?

Well glass they will have to eat their words now – and we can provide a just a smidgen of seasoning to accompany them. grin

I am a member of Mumsnet and counted the days down to the unveiling of GN.
We got a bit of stick from Mums netters who had popped over on the first day to see what was going on grin

When my DGD was born dd who is on mumsnet suggested I join this!

Lilygran Thu 17-Jan-13 22:20:36

Eggzackly!

They proposed it on Mumsnet some time before they actually created this site. I seem to remember some kind of survey thing.

I didn't think it would work. hmm

My GD (7) loves "what's your favourite" questions. The are quite taxing to answer at times, I find. What is your favourite bird nana? What is my favourite bird? So many birds. So hard to even choose the criteria. Let alone the bird. smile

Ana Thu 17-Jan-13 21:34:44

No - let's not! hmm

Anne58 Thu 17-Jan-13 21:20:31

graces re the "T" word, should we say instead something like

"passing aquaintance of a family of male ovines who may have either a deep voice or be possessed of less than couth manners, conversationally"

Ariadne Thu 17-Jan-13 21:11:35

I think DD told me about it, then I had a look, then....still here! smile

Ana Thu 17-Jan-13 20:40:08

Go on, admit it Ella - you're an avid DM reader...wink

Ella46 Thu 17-Jan-13 20:38:08

I must be the exception! not for the first time wink

Ariadne Thu 17-Jan-13 20:37:54

Know what you mean about Jackie magazine, Phoenix! DGD tells me there is a website for teenagers full of "interesting questions to ask your friends". I am happy to say that she was quite disdainful about it!

Anne58 Thu 17-Jan-13 20:33:53

There, you see! Inability to remember is one of the first requirements for membership, as evry fule nose.

Ella46 Thu 17-Jan-13 20:32:44

First week, and I read about it in the Daily Mail!!!!

annodomini Thu 17-Jan-13 20:30:50

Not from the first day, but fairly early in its existence - I heard about it in the press or possibly Woman's Hour. Can't quite remember.

merlotgran Thu 17-Jan-13 19:09:04

A few of you often say you have been with Gransnet from the first day. How did you find out about it. Were you already on Mumsnet and is that where it was promoted? Just wondering.

Riverwalk Thu 17-Jan-13 18:58:02

shock I didn't say Teddy! shock

Ana Thu 17-Jan-13 18:54:55

We're allowed to say it...confused

gracesmum Thu 17-Jan-13 18:47:59

riverwalk - you have used the t word! shock

Ella46 Thu 17-Jan-13 18:45:05

phoenix Not just me then wink Thank goodness!

Anne58 Thu 17-Jan-13 18:38:33

At the risk of seeming contentious, there have been times lately when I thought I had wandered into the pages of "Jackie" magazine and might be about to be asked what my favourite colour was. confused

JessM some very good points, and well made. (I think I'm often guilty of the titles thing blush )

JessM Thu 17-Jan-13 18:32:56

I think there was a long patch in which most regular posters "knew" most of the other regular posters e.g. roughly where they lived, family issues etc. GN has recently grown too big for this to be possible unless one was on the site all day.
I think there is a lot to be said for resurrecting ('bumping') older threads as it there are often a lot of wise and witty sayings therein. Or we are repeating ourselves. For instance isnt there a previous thread about halogen ovens?
However it has to be said
1. the search engine on GN is about as much use as the search engine on the BBC
2. People very often do not put the subject of the thread in the title - which makes it a lot harder to find at a future date. Undisciplined bunch start threads with things like "Is this a good idea?" instead of something more specific shock bad GNners Go and stand in the corner!

Lilygran Thu 17-Jan-13 18:15:06

There isn't much to say about motherhood and apple pie - and pink teddy bears- except, Aaah! lovely! GNHQ - perhaps you could create a teddy ikon and then we could just post it when we agree with the sentiments expressed?

Movedalot Thu 17-Jan-13 18:02:19

I think there were some lovely threads around Christmas which ran for quite a while and a lot of people commented that it was much nicer. I don't remember any teddy bears of any colour though smile Then I don't read all threads.

absent Thu 17-Jan-13 17:59:40

Movedalot That was very daring – virtually all the controversial threads started since May 2011 have run and run. grin The let's all be nice to the whole world and think of pink teddy bears threads tend to peter out quite quickly. I wonder why? grin
