This morning I reported a post which was blatant spam.
Now when I go to 'I'm on' it says this:

Herbal Care Products for Any Health Condition
Thread deleted
This thread has been deleted by GNHQ because, let's face it, it turned into a bit of a bunfight.

Really?? What's all that about?
Apart from cupcakeobviously.
hmm

form a queue for the buffet in an orderly manner per-lease
And yes Geraldine always looks svelte despite the cake fetish in that office.

Ana Wed 13-Mar-13 16:55:19

Not in Lil's Bar, Ella - as you know very well! wink

Ella46 Wed 13-Mar-13 16:40:18

No good for here then Bags, we only do dignified scrambles grin

Bags Wed 13-Mar-13 16:26:57

Posh translation: undignified scramble.

Bags Wed 13-Mar-13 16:26:13

Our chickens used to have 'bun fights' over bacon scraps or meal worms.

j08 Wed 13-Mar-13 15:10:36

I think it's more likely to be necessary for Mumsnet threads. Bit lazy using it on here too. hmm

janthea Wed 13-Mar-13 15:07:35

I've used the expression 'bun fight' for something that may be a little disorganised and may involve food. grin

j08 Wed 13-Mar-13 14:52:32

Oh!! I love cream buns with synthetic cream! Don't see them so much these days. sad

Stansgran Wed 13-Mar-13 14:45:42

Gregg's used (may well still do)to sell a very large bun filled with synthetic cream and synthetic jam and dusted with icing sugar. I still remember my brother and his then wife walking through town stuffing their faces with these giant missiles.

baubles Wed 13-Mar-13 14:34:19

No point at all unless the buns were covered in sticky cream to maximise the mess grin

soop Wed 13-Mar-13 13:05:34

Oh, Elegran that sort of thing would never happen at a GN getogether...or would it? I can well imagine Twinkle Toes throwing a bun and diving under the table...and in comes Bags bearing a batch of home-made bread rolls...and isn't that Gally skulking behind the door well-armed with fairy cakes...and as for Baubles...don't ask...wink

Elegran Tue 12-Mar-13 20:54:46

I would use it to describe any sort of social occasion where the food is subsidiary to the main business, the numbers are not known accurately in advance and at least a few of the guests are possibly just there for the food. I suppose that is where the fight part comes in.

Ana Tue 12-Mar-13 20:36:50

I always thought it implied some sort of rowdiness....hmm

Grandmanorm Tue 12-Mar-13 20:28:05

Gracesmum, my family refer to the "party" after a funeral as "the bun fight" Not very reverent but I have used that phrase for longer than I care to remember.

Galen Tue 12-Mar-13 20:27:47

And I bet they're all slim in spite of all the cakeangry

JessM Tue 12-Mar-13 20:15:39

yea - can you just imagine that GN lot throwing cake around instead of eating it hmm

gracesmum Tue 12-Mar-13 20:15:31

Re bunfights.

About 25 years ago shortly before DD2's confirmation I heard her on the phone to one of her friends asking her if she would be able to come,She announced solemnly that "Mummy says there's to be cake-throwing afterwards in the Church Hall"

I had suggested there would be the "usual bunfight", indeed in the Church Hall grin We can't be the only people to use the expression for tea and cakes?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 12-Mar-13 20:14:10

Actually the message SHOULD read "this thread was deleted because but breached our talk guidelines" but that pesky gremlin got into the system and caused bother again.

As if we'd have a bun fight - what a waste of perfectly good cake that would be cupcake

Ana Tue 12-Mar-13 20:01:58

It is on some, but not the one in the OP, which was apparently deleted shortly after it appeared! That's why the 'reason' for deletion is so....^inappropriate^! confused

Nelliemoser Tue 12-Mar-13 19:57:13

I never seem to see these threads that then get deleted. I miss out on all the speculations. Mutter mutter.
I expect the banter that followed is probably funnier than the thread.

Ana Tue 12-Mar-13 19:50:05

If it was deleted Jess won't be able to give a link - unless she saved it...shock grin

Galen Tue 12-Mar-13 19:44:36

Do tell and give linkgrin

Anne58 Tue 12-Mar-13 19:39:53

JessM do elaborate! Was there really a thread about that?????

Ariadne Tue 12-Mar-13 18:54:44

galen grin

annodomini Tue 12-Mar-13 18:35:32

This post deleted because we know you weren't joking.
