Thank you for sharing that penguinpaperback grin and welcome. Don't worry about not being able to clutch your pearls it's not obligatory.

grannyactivist Sun 22-Sept-13 23:16:46

Hello penguin and welcome. Nice first post. grin

penguinpaperback Sun 22-Sept-13 23:14:05

Hello, I'm new, I'm lurking a bit at the moment. I do have a some pearls but I'm downstairs and the pearls are upstairs so I'm unable to clutch them at the moment. Nice to meet you all. :-)

Granny23 Sun 22-Sept-13 23:04:25

I have pearls but only wear them on special occasions - Silver Wedding when I got them from DH, Ruby Wedding when we I 'renewed our vows' on a cruise, DD2's Wedding and I may well wear them again for Golden Wedding in 2.5 years. They don't get out often wink

Aka Sun 22-Sept-13 23:00:38

Greatnan is that a challenge grin ?

Greatnan Sun 22-Sept-13 22:50:14

I used to wear pearls but there didn't seem to be much point as I don't socialise, so I gave them all away to my daughter. I believe they need to be worn frequently to keep the glow.
It takes a lot to shock me!

Ana Sun 22-Sept-13 22:19:54

feetlebaum - did you know this?! shock

absent Sun 22-Sept-13 22:08:18

I have just googled that expression which apparently has become a cliché on various feminist blogs trying to outdo each other in the not-being-shocked stakes. It has also been adopted by gay blogs. Apparently it is now considered passé so I didn't miss much.

Ana Sun 22-Sept-13 22:05:34

My pleasure, absent.

absent Sun 22-Sept-13 22:04:10

No Ana I have never come across the expression. That's why I asked why anyone would clutch their pearls. Thank you for explaining.

annodomini Sun 22-Sept-13 21:56:02

The only time I clutched at my pearls, the string broke!

JessM Sun 22-Sept-13 21:41:22

occasionally wear em (if I want to look like a proper grown up) - they are not really worth clutching at though. prefer my bluey lumpy freshwater ones from NZ.

Agus Sun 22-Sept-13 21:37:16

I wear pearls, never clutched them. I do swear on occasion.

Ana Sun 22-Sept-13 21:35:12

To show our disapproval, absent, accompanied by a sharp intake of (shocked) breath. Surely you've come across the expression before? confused

absent Sun 22-Sept-13 21:23:17

Galen is the only one who posts about her pearls, so far as I recall. That's why I said I knew of only one grannetter for certain. Now we know that there are at least four of us but do any of us clutch them? If so, why?

annodomini Sun 22-Sept-13 21:19:44

I wear pearls from time to time - occasionally swear, but seldom in public.

thatbags Sun 22-Sept-13 21:10:25

I wear pearls and I sometimes swear. So does the other GNer who is known to wear pearls.

Penstemmon Sun 22-Sept-13 21:08:52

Pearls before swine?

Ana Sun 22-Sept-13 20:43:07

grin

j08 Sun 22-Sept-13 20:24:38

How do you know how many of the 15000 wear pearls?! grin

absent Sun 22-Sept-13 20:08:16

There is only one poster I know for certain who wears pearls. She posts about them from time to time as well as about many other topics.

NfkDumpling Sun 22-Sept-13 16:31:40

Pearl clutching? Is this an expression I can throw into polite mixed conversation?

Kiora Sun 22-Sept-13 13:15:35

I posted with tongue in cheek really. Seriously though I do have spare rooms but 1 the beds are not as comfortable as ours. 2 it would be a very very last resort I like the intimacy of sleeping together.3 The pjs work to mop up the sweat so I think he should wear them and he mostly does just not last night. But if that's all i'v got to moan about I'm happy The roller coaster of family life can be wearing at times. A little banality is good for me.

j08 Sun 22-Sept-13 11:15:21
