Delete Button

Perhaps they could add an "Edited to" paragraph to a post that someone changed their mind on, with the date edited, so that the original still stood? It could make the post rather long though.

I'm not quite sure what a 'like' button would achieve. Would the number of 'likes' per post be displayed? Would posters who never get any 'likes' feel unloved and unwanted? Would it spark a 'who's got the most' competition?

I know of one site where the number of 'likes' a member's received is recorded on their profile

Yes quite right IMO. And there is always the option of apologising if we have posted in haste and given unintentional offence.

I asked for a delete button, others said yay or nay, no comment from GNHQ.

Still don't see where this thread is going or even where it is coming from. If it is just a techie issue, have we had a response from GNHQ? Or is there something underlying it?

They do that with webchats, why not with the threads?

I would like a means [other forums have them] whereby you can highlight in a 'box' within your own message box what another poster has said, so that it shows you are replying or agreeing with that particular post. Very useful.

I do, by which time someone else has said the same thing as me a few posts ahead, only more intelligently, then I am guilty of not reading previous posts before replying.

I always preview my messages and check for mistakes, spelling or otherwise and very often delete them if I feel they are wrong or too self centred or just plain boring!

Only did it when I thought someone may be reading (not posting) and recognise themselves, which could cause problems for someone else (family).Not what I would do if I just changed my opinion re something

I don't see how a thread can be a discussion unless we are commenting on the posts of others! A series of posts in isolation would soon become very tedious and as for the typos, well I only ever spot mine after my comment has posted. Now an "oh sh*t"button that *would be usrful!

Frankly I don't accept the flow argument if only because its rare that my posts are commented on. That's not a gripe, it's a comment.

I agree with the point that a thread would be very hard to follow. As we see when GN HQ feel they need to delete a post.

If you have said something, stick by it, if you feel you have made a mistake, admit it and apologise. That way you gain respect and the thread keeps flowing.

They do it very quickly too

If you want to delete a post, "report" it to GNHQ and simply ask them to delete it. There will be footnote to the effect that "post is deleted at the member's request". Perfectly easy and straightforward.
