I didn't know it was a competition.

What's wrong with funny quotes from The Bard? A lot of the serious 'moralising' quotes were frequently duplicated because posters hadn't read the earlier posts, so presumably couldn't be considered.

Surprising the number of entries. Considering the prize was a twelve quid book from Amazon. grin

There were over 200 to choose from, (mainly, I suspect, because it was a Competition thread!)

Mine wasn't a funny one - quite a sad one really.

Maybe people just aren't into Shakespeare enough anymore to have enough to offer a thread? My knowledge of him and his works is somewhat limited.

Very unlike you jingl to complain about humour? I thought the pics went very well with the quotes and were funny.

Well, that would be very clever Bags. grin

Not sure I would dare criticise him though! grin

I thought you might have meant Will-I-am as in Shakespeare, jings. Easy to baffle, me.

"Ah we were just having a bit of fun"

Why does that sound Irish. St Patrick's day is over.

Top o' the morning to you Ma'am, nonetheless. smile

Well, I've posted a sort of GN relevant version of "shall I compare thee" etc, which could be seen as anarchy in some quarters.

Just a rebel, me.

The big "I am" ???

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 19-Mar-14 08:58:52

No point really Bags. Everyone is afraid to say boo-to-a goose when it comes to criticising the big "I am". hmm

thatbags Wed 19-Mar-14 08:50:55

After you, jings. Set the ball rolling as well as the 'tone' you want.

On the front page of Gransnet, for Shakespeare Week (on at the moment of course) there is a selection of "gransnetters' top quotes". All of them "funny". Which is fine as far as it goes, but come on!!! Shakespeare is about a lot more than that! Why not some quotes with a bit more profundity? A bit more beauty???

Is this supposed to reflect the depth of Gransnetters' thinking? hmm
