A reply from Chrome help sorted out the problem. I had to disable an extension, though I have no idea how it got itself enabled in the first place. Back to normal and working well.

I am using a Samsung Chromebook laptop. It's not just on this site. It's everywhere and I have notified the Chrome helpline.

anno I don't even get a blue border (smartphone) let alone a rogue brown one.

I was in the middle of writing a post a few minutes ago when suddenly an orangey brown border appeared outside the usual blue border. They seem to be cropping up everywhere - even round the Gransnet logo. I have never seen this phenomenon before. Does anyone else have it?
