Hello from the new Gransnet Local Editor for Barnet, Greater London

I'm very excited that I've been appointed LE for Barnet, and just wanted to give everyone on here a virtual wave (and a brew and cupcake to warm you all up in this cold weather!)

I'm not sure I'm posting in the right place, but I'm sure someone from GNHQ will be along soon to put me right if I've strayed into the wrong area! grin

If you live in Barnet or the surrounding area, please do take a look at my site, list local event details for free and perhaps start a talk thread to find others in your area who might fancy a meet up - and another, but this time realbrew and cupcake.

Ed (aka Jenny Hall), Gransnet Barnet.

You look very young.

I have to sy how nice it is for a local editor to have the good manners to introduce herself, rather than suddenly appearing to arrange things; people will now "know" you - so thank you, Jenny!

I live in Devon, so won't be joining you, but good luck. smile

Do you have to be a Gran to be a LE? Just asking.

Ariadne Tue 25-Nov-14 12:18:32

In my experience, LEs are not people who post regularly, so we don't "know" them; they are of course members of GN, but there have been some who get quite agitated by a lack of response. That is why I thought it nice that Jenny introduced herself.

Still don't quite see the point, but that is very much a personal point of view.

Hello everyone, so sorry for radio silence. I've been so busy with the site I lost track of this thread! Ariadne, many thanks for your warm welcome smile

Thank you for saying I look young! This may be because I've (ahem) used a photo that is 6 years old! I need to get a new one but since having children I've not had a decent one taken of me. It's been all about them!

So, no, I'm not a grandmother but I'm 42 and so not far off the over 50s target demographic for Gransnet and Gransnet Local. Also, previously I've managed government campaigns on age diversity and discrimination in the workplace, and interviewed many older people about the ageism they face (in and out of the workplace) so I feel particularly passionate about the work Gransnet is doing on the #everydayageism campaign.

I'm a communications and events officer for my school's PTA, and work alongside a grandparent who is a 50/50 carer for her grandchild, and it was a discussion with her that prompted me to apply for the Gransnet LE role.

In addition to building the listings and promoting the Gransnet Local brand via press, social media etc, I'm also keen to arrange face to face meet ups in the borough. Anyone in Barnet keen to participate in a meet up in the new year, please do feel to email me at any time on [email protected]

All the very best to you all and a very happy Christmas!

I would like to welcome JennyHall too. I am a regular(ish) forum contributor and local editor for Colchester, Essex since April 2013. I am sure I must have introduced myself then, but the thread would have disappeared into oblivion... tchhmm
