first they try to finish us off make us hin with the 5.2 diet, and then - in the newsletter - they go and link to this. shock

Glamma I've got to try that cherry cake recipe! Sounds delicious! The choccie cake recipe sounds a lot like mine, but I'm going to try the adding the hot water bit.

Oh and the Madeira cake sounds fantastic with ground almonds!

And then they move on to puddings!

Don't think I will be baking many more cakes! DH came back from GP saying he has high blood pressure! I will try to cut out salt from his diet but it will be difficult. He was brought up on cake. His mother was a farmer's wife and a stalwart of the WI. If it could be baked, she could make it. I forgot to say that he needs to lose weight. We suspended the 5:2 diet at Christmas, it is now reinstated!

I don't add salt either. I did try a Victoria sponge once but it came out pretty much rock hard sad I need to try again.

My granny used to say 'a pinch of salt in everything but custard'. I don't see the point of unsalted butter in a recipe if you are then going to add a pinch! I always use the all in one method, as there is no danger of curdling. Never had any complaints.

Somehow the unsalted butter adds a creaminess that you don't get with anything else, even if you do add a pinch of salt.

(choc cake in oven. having a rest before I do the cherry one)
