What are these little boxes that have suddenly appeared with thumbs up, or pin it, or 0?

They are obscuring some of my screen and I don't understand them.

Go away!!

Oh good, so it's not just my computer then. confused

Liz46 Thu 03-Sept-15 11:37:12

I just assumed that I had done something wrong!

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 03-Sept-15 11:41:16

No, definitely not you! It's us. More gremlins than usual about this morning. The boxes still not sorted but fingers crossed that will be soon. Cake on us this morning - sorry for the bother! cupcake

Nelliemoser Thu 03-Sept-15 11:45:31

I saw them on mumsnet yesterday when I was nosing about for birthday cake making tips.

Ana Thu 03-Sept-15 11:50:27

Oh thank goodness - they're back where they belong! grin

Thanks Lara and GNHQ techies.

Coolgran65 Thu 03-Sept-15 11:53:32

I didn't even know there was a newspaper - daily or otherwise .

Indinana Thu 03-Sept-15 13:10:44

Oh good, everything's back to normal! Thank you GNHQ, you can all put your feet up now and have a brew

I too dislike the daily newsletter and miss the quotes from the forums. I've not unsubscribed yet but I think I may. How do HQ know the new daily one is "popular with most"? Perhaps many are just deleting it without reading it or commenting to HQ (like me!).

Ana Thu 03-Sept-15 13:39:00

Yes, do people actually contact GNHQ to tell them they like the new daily newsletter? Why is it popular? confused

Elegran Thu 03-Sept-15 13:45:19

I delete it without reading it and I always used to read the old one. The new version seems much more impersonal than the old ones, just a list of some of the topics, with a snappy title that has no connection with any content. I think I'll unsubscribe too, then I won't have the disappointment of thinking at first that it is a real email.

LyndaW Thu 03-Sept-15 13:48:58

I quite like it. Don't read every one obviously but always have a quick browse through. There's usually at least one thing that I want to read about.

tiggypiro Thu 03-Sept-15 16:07:38

I too have unsubscribed from the daily newsletter but quite liked the weekly one.
As for the annoying little boxes on the left hand side - I can't scroll down a page until they have got themselves all sorted out which is very irritating to say the least.

Elegran Thu 03-Sept-15 16:58:00

I think the weekly one took up someone's time to write, but this short daily one is just a matter of copying a few thread heading links and adding the "commercial breaks". Quicker and easier.

ninathenana Thu 03-Sept-15 18:24:40

I've never had a news letter in all the years I've been here and no, I'm not complaining grin

Today's newsletter has the title "Goldilocks should be charged with breaking and entering and electronically tagged", but it doesn't contain anything to explain the title.

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 12:51:30

Mine just says 'the literary edition' - no mention of Goldilocks anywhere...confused

hildajenniJ Mon 07-Sept-15 13:32:32

I unsubscribed. I don't get the newsletter any more. I never read much of it, and did not like the new one.

Elegran Mon 07-Sept-15 13:44:15

Not the actual newsletter, the title of the email containing it.

Elegran Mon 07-Sept-15 13:45:12

I suspect these email titles are just hooks to catch attention so that we open them - an adman's trick.

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 13:48:49

The title of my email was 'The literary edition: Gransnet Daily'

Elegran Mon 07-Sept-15 13:51:42

And why is it that when I click on "Unanswered" at the top of the list of threads, I get "You are not watching any threads at the moment"? I wasn't asking to look at threads I am watching! I wanted to look at unanswered threads.

Elegran Mon 07-Sept-15 13:53:28

What did the "Subject" line of the email say? (Sorry, I should have said subject above , not title)

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 13:59:32

That was the 'subject'!

Gransnet team - The literary edition : Gransnet Daily

Ana Mon 07-Sept-15 14:03:57

Yesterday's was

Gransnet team - Strictly, spiralisers and going sugar-free

Elegran Mon 07-Sept-15 14:16:50

What about the 5th? My subject was "anything for the weekend?" !!
I am starting to think I have a problem . . .
