Please take away the nasty question marks and give us back our quote marks.

Please!

Ah - so it wasn't brain failure on my part - that's a relief smile

Ana Mon 14-Sep-15 12:44:53

How do you do accents?

KatGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 14-Sep-15 13:02:10

Oo-err, we thought this was fixed. We'll flag it up to tech again.

Ana Mon 14-Sep-15 13:05:22

merlot, the only one I can do easily on my PC is the acute - if you have an AltGr key on your keyboard hold that down while typing the letter you want to be accented.

Indinana Mon 14-Sep-15 13:12:12

The same as you would on any typed document, merlot - you go to the computer's character map and type in the code for the whole letter complete with accent. For instance to type El Niño, you hold down the alt key while typing 0241 to get the ñ. For the common acute accents you just need to hold down ctrl+alt+e to get é or with an a to get á, with an i to get í. This, of course, is all in MS Windows. If you're on an iPad or kindle, I'm afraid I have no idea, sorry sad

Indinana Mon 14-Sep-15 13:13:10

Oh yes, the altgr key, I forgot that one! Thanks Ana

Just to clarify, is it the double quote marks that are appearing as question marks for you?

(Can't check myself as it works fine on my computer)

Charleygirl Mon 14-Sep-15 14:21:47

Let me try-!!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 14-Sep-15 14:31:07

When I copied and pasted a bit from somewhere it came out like this:

"Rob Williams, of the National Shop Stewards Network said: ??The victory yesterday by Jeremy Corbyn has changed everything. The vote we saw yesterday was a political revolution. We must build a mass movement against austerity and the anti-union laws.
??The message must be simple ?? 'Cameron: we are going to take you down. Your anti-union Bill and your cuts, you??re going down because we are mobilising against you??.
??If this goes into law, we want mass coordinated strike action.??"

Question marks where there should have neen quotation marks.

Sorry late replying.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 14-Sep-15 14:32:33

Ignore the content of course. grin

merlotgran Mon 14-Sep-15 14:44:02

Ana Mon 14-Sep-15 15:49:36

Ana Mon 14-Sep-15 15:50:15

Long dash, middle-sized dash and short dash comes out as ?? ?? -

thatbags Mon 14-Sep-15 16:34:16

And no, HQ, it isn't my 'device' that's causing the problem because I used to be able to do long dashes in posts on this very same 'device'.

Ana Mon 14-Sep-15 16:40:09

Ana Mon 14-Sep-15 16:40:55
