Gransnet keeping information

Alea you had me worried there! Had to go and consult the dictionary. It just means "A collection of documents about a particular person, event, or subject" (French in origin so nothing un-PC). smile
Any chance we can move on now?

Nelliemoser Sun 13-Dec-15 21:11:01

It's not at all GNHQ keeping my information I am worried about.

It's Soons seeming obsession with wanting to be able to find out what any other poster said on a given day, over all the the years they have been on GN.

tchangry

Just like to take issue with Laragransnet on the non -PC description of the big b** dossier. In fact since Iraq and WMD I'm not even sure you can say "dossier".

But relax, it wasn't the unlikely possibility of minutiae gathering getting in the way of the cupcake eating your daily grind that exercised us.
We all know "who's got a little list" of who will be first against the wall.

Some posters are wanting to withdraw photos that they posted

Only because you started stirring up doubt and suspicion, soontobe.
The only concerns most GN members might have would be that family or friends might recognise them from a problem they'd posted about, and those members aren't likely to have posted a photo of themselves for that very reason.

Stop spreading doom and despondency, for goodness sake! hmm

annsixty Sun 13-Dec-15 21:00:57

I still find it hard to believe that after posting a photo of myself on a thread about having white hair that someone can instantly recall it. I personally don't read all threads and would find it hard to recall all the posts even on the ones I do read.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 20:55:33

Fair point. But posts can be deleted by request if you feel you have given away information which you would later prefer not to be out there on a public forum.

In fact, if people are careful what they post, I think we would be more at risk by hackers getting into other sites and obtaining details and bank account/credit card details.

I don't think I am so interesting, in fact, that anyone would ever want to compile a dossier on me!

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 20:50:59

That doesnt really anwer my point I dont think.
Whether it is nefarious or not[didnt think it was that], everyones' details are open on here, going back 4 years.
That may be the same of every forum[no idea whether it is or not] but is it wise in this day and age?
Some posters are wanting to withdraw photos that they posted, and they were only posted a few weeks ago.

If posters are happy with everything being open for many years[I myself am] then there is no problem.

A forum like this is not like an email account. And even then, people are careful nowadays what they keep on record.

I sometimes think of here, that it is necessary to say the same thing over and over again, until it sinks in

I have to do that with DH (selective hearing apparently), but I thought that at least on GN I would have a break from it.

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 13-Dec-15 20:41:19

Hello
Know this is obvious to most of you but just to clarify, yes, we are a public forum, but Gransnet does not keep anyone's details in a big black dossier for nefarious means. Will be posting same on other thread.

rosequartz Sun 13-Dec-15 20:28:26

janea grin

Perhaps Ana has a photographic memory, she does't need to search.
I knew someone like that once, he was the only person I knew who passed Russian 'A' level first time.
это очень странно

janeainsworth Sun 13-Dec-15 20:20:51

Is this a competition? To see who can start the daftest thread in the history of Gransnet?

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 17:55:57

As for re-posting threads, there was one only today on one of the health forums - old threads are often helpful when the same problem/subject comes up regularly.

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 17:53:10

So? I don't need to search for them, they're usually pretty recent ones. She often refers to something I've said in the past, too.

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 17:50:57

You often quote past posts of dj.

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 17:49:52

No one is answering the question. Perhaps it is a question really for gransnet.
Information goes out of date quickly.

What is the point of threads from 2011 and 2012?

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 17:47:51

Ana. You clearly search often. About the same poster most times.

You are wrong. If I or anyone put the name of any poster in the search box hundreds of posts would come up, and not in date order either!

There you go again, thinking you 'know' more than you actually do...

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 17:46:54

Fair enough! tchgrin

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 17:43:29

I sometimes think of here, that it is necessary to say the same thing over and over again, until it sinks in with some people

tchhmm
This would be funny if it wasn't so laughable.
You know what? Some of us feel exactly likewise. .

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 17:41:08

Ana. You clearly search often. About the same poster most times.

I dont search much at all. I remember things. I cant help that.

Which threads are reposted? I cant think of any off the top of my head.

I am prepared to say, over and over again, that I dont search much. I sometimes think of here, that it is necessary to say the same thing over and over again, until it sinks in with some people.

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 17:26:39

Probably for a thread they remember from way back which they want to re-post. Not to glean gossipy tittle tattle about members' lives...

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 17:24:40

I have said I dont search much. There are others who patently search more often.

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 17:16:14

They have to stay visible back to the Dark Ages year dot so that you can trawl through them and accumulate fascinating snippets of information about everybody. Beats watching rubbish TV like reality shows.

MiniMouse Sun 13-Dec-15 17:15:02

Eh? tchhmm tchconfused

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 17:12:07

I am beginning to see and wonder if gransnet need to keep everyones' posts accessible and on view, since the site started.

Is there a point to that at all?

I can see that a lot of gransnetters see gransnet as somewhat of a private chat forum. Obviously it is far from that, but, especially as the search forum is so lame, is there any reason to keeping posters' posts available from back to 2011?

I can sort of see the point as regards the Health topic. But not much else.
