Why is it that some OPs have a blue background, so that they stand out, yet others don't?
I'm sure they all used to be blue until recently.

Yes, it's to show what the first post of the thread was on subsequent pages. Most times so it puts things in context - not always .
Thank you Lara and tanith - I hadn't thought about it only being on the second page that the OP was highlighted 
Doesn't happen on the mobile site though
