Hi all, thanks for your feedback/suggestions - it's all really useful to us. We're busy scribbling down notes here... We really want to make local work for you all, so it's especially interesting to hear of things you weren't sure of/weren't aware of, so we can try and get more info out there accordingly smile

That sounds great. Good if you are visiting the area for finding the best places to go. I hadn't thought of using GN like that!

All welcome on the Leicestershire site - you don't have to be from here but if you are visiting at all or looking for somewhere to go for a day out I'm busy putting on lots of suggestions- some really nice restaurants, farm shops , parks etc and soon the all the local National Garden Scheme sites. If you are visiting anywhere it would be so helpful if Gransnetters could have a look at the relevant site and put on a short review - only needs to be one or two sentences. Thank you.

Thanks for he info everyone. GNHQ I wonder if it would be better to suggest to new editors that they only contact people when they have sorted things out. I appreciate there is a lot of work involved but it is quite annoying to get a message saying someone is starting up and then hear nothing for a long time.

Thanks Pittcity

I think you are given the option to choose your local site and receive the newsletter when you first log on to the site. There is a box to tick in the settings part of My Gransnet.

As for the sites looking dead. Anyone can add to any local site, not only on the forums but also the listings on the left hand side. There doesn't have to be an editor you can liven it up yourself.

Were the local sites just a good idea that didn't take off? Ours is dead with posts in 2013.

We could just drive up and drop in on the Duke, glass grin

glassortwo Wed 02-Mar-16 19:58:04

That would great if you could get some kind of notification, I stopped dropping into ours as I felt like I was the only one around.

janeA yes we are spoilt for choice up here, but to be honest I dont think there is much going on in any of them.

Wow! I've just been on the Tyne & Wear site, which has just got an editor, and there's a message from Ralph Percy, 12th Duke of Northumberland, welcoming Gransnetters to Alnwick Castleshock

How do you sign up for the local newsletter Pittcity? Just email the editor?

Pittcity Wed 02-Mar-16 19:11:08

There are monthly local newsletters from active sites with editors that you can sign up for.
A meetup alert system like they have on MN local would be great.

D'oh! blush

janeainsworth Wed 02-Mar-16 18:11:21

That's the problem imperfect no one knows who is local to a particular area - GN only has our email addresses.

Imperfect27 Wed 02-Mar-16 17:40:57

Hooray for the new Kent editor - can you give local gransnetters a nudge when it all gets going or do we have to check daily??? ?

janeainsworth Wed 02-Mar-16 17:23:08

Hi Trisher I think the problem in our area is there are too many sites.
I live in Northumberland (near the airport) and have four to choose from - Hexham, Northumberland, Newcastle and Tyne and Wear.

I can't be bothered checking all four sites, to be honest.

It might work if GNers could somehow 'sign up' to receive emails if they wanted to, from local editors, so they could be alerted to meet-ups etc, rather like the main Gransnet newsletter. At the moment the local editors must feel as though they are bashing their heads against a brick wall.

Hi Nina, we've just this week taken on a new Kent editor - watch that space!

ninathenana Wed 02-Mar-16 17:10:24

The Kent site so far has not been very good. There's several headings but most have no info and those that do only mention one or two things despite the fact I've checked it out a few times over the years. Today there is an active thread saying it's being revamped.

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 02-Mar-16 17:08:55

Hi trisher, we've someone new start on Tyne and Wear quite recently, but there's a lot to get going to begin with! She's still finding her feet for now I believe. It's just quite a long process, building a site up from scratch smile

trisher Wed 02-Mar-16 15:15:08

Sorry managers- I seem to keep missing 'a's out of this word!

trisher Wed 02-Mar-16 15:14:15

Has anyone else noticed that Local Site managers seem to keep disappearing? I'm in Newcastle and some time ago someone said they would be running ours. It came to nothing. Recently there was another post about it and also one for a Tyne and Wear local site. neither seems to have come to anything. So I wonder is this a Northern problem? Is someone kidnapping site mangers or are they simply freezing to death up here? If you have a successful local site that would be interesting as well.
