Galen Sun 09-Oct-16 22:19:59

Fresh baked end crust with salted butter and marmite!
Heaven!

wot Sun 09-Oct-16 22:18:41

Yes, read Soops.
I chuck my crusts over the fence at the back to keep the rats out of my garden! I have no guilt over wasting food that way!

downtoearth Sun 09-Oct-16 22:14:08

Have I missed something wot?

wot Sun 09-Oct-16 22:12:09

Felt so sad earlier on with sad GN news. Good to have a quick chuckle while we can.

downtoearth Sun 09-Oct-16 22:11:11

Give the wild ducks in the garden the end crusts....they haven't got curly feathers either

Elegran Sun 09-Oct-16 22:10:55

That's pretty, thatbags like velvet (is the word devore velvet?) with an acute accent on the e.

downtoearth Sun 09-Oct-16 22:09:06

I was made to eat my crusts mum said would make my hair curly...it's not....but I still like the nobby with thick butter

Ana Sun 09-Oct-16 22:08:43

The first slice of a loaf is the crust as well. But nicer than the end one!

Unless it's been eaten very quickly, which of course could easily be the case in a big family...

wot Sun 09-Oct-16 22:08:05

I still don't eat the corner bits.

wot Sun 09-Oct-16 22:04:42

My big sister used to hide the crusts I wouldn't eat from our foster mother. How loyal is that?!

thatbags Sun 09-Oct-16 22:02:39

But all the slices except the end slice have less crust so the heels are the mostest crusts, so crusts, like what I said (and so did my parents, so blame them smile ).

Here's a nice global population density map: twitter.com/maxcroser/status/785213116225159168

downtoearth Sun 09-Oct-16 22:00:55

Galen Sun 09-Oct-16 21:59:07

But then, a heel can be a rotter!

wot Sun 09-Oct-16 21:58:52

grin

Galen Sun 09-Oct-16 21:58:24

Heel or crust ( late husband was Scots)

NanaandGrampy Sun 09-Oct-16 21:57:50

We call it the nobby bit smile

Ana Sun 09-Oct-16 21:57:22

But the crust is all around the loaf. I don't think I call the end of a loaf anything other than the end bit, but I've heard it called the heel.

thatbags Sun 09-Oct-16 21:54:14

I've always called the slices that make thick sandwiches doorstep slices because they are thick like doorstep stones. Perhaps the whole sandwich, made of doorsteps and a filling, is a doorstop.

What do you call the end of the loaf? I call it the crust; most Scots call it the heel.

Stansgran Sun 09-Oct-16 21:50:45

I've been here from the start 2011and my special talent is killing threads. Shall I try here?
I always thought those sandwiches were doorstOps not doorsteps .

NanaandGrampy Sun 09-Oct-16 21:49:21

My pleasure Wot smile

Maybe it's about aliens then Thatbags ????
