That's how Jing is obi she doesn't necessarily follow your rules or mine which I find quite refreshing. The fact that we are still yakking on about her shows what a different personality she has. Sharp, witty and a pain in the arse.

Jingls sometimes lets her finger run away with her. Sometimes she apologises and sometimes she doesnt, which I find a tad confusing.

I've said somewhere else (this thread, another thread, another life!) that new people shouldn't come on throwing their weight around but take time to 'bed in' and learn who is intentionally rude and who lets their finger run away with them. Those of us who have been here a while 'know' jings and tend to ignore her more outrageous postings! She even insulted my favourite hotel

So let's be clear: I think referring to a gransnetter as Saint Somebody is a sharp remark. I do not think someone should be banned from the forums for that kind of remark but I think thought someone might have been. So I said so. No offence, no hurt, just a plain straightforward guess, which turned out to be wrong.

Yes, abominable, db, because I don't make a habit of being deliberately (or even accidentally) deeply offensive towards people or going around trying to hurt their feelings, as anyone who actually knows me would tell you. I think you already know that.

I'm new here but truly found Jingle's posts mostly funny/thought provoking/enjoyably sarcastic and down to earth. All things I appreciate. I'm very sad if those characteristics get you banned.

I think the point bags is making is that some people look for things to be offended about and relish complaining. Then there are people who, like Tegan are currently feeling a bit more sensitive than usual. They tend to bite back (not report) as Tegan just did which is the way to do it.

I really hope that hasn't offended anyone - I apologise if I have.

I am pretty new here, but have posted a few times quite blandly( although I am not at all bland in my opinions, just getting the lay of the land so to speak. I didn't see the " Argument" here so can't really make a comment.This has led me though to have a scan around some of the other topics, and I notice alot of comments deleted, not only comments but apparantly some entire threads.

It is early days for me so far on here but I do hope that this is not going to be a " nanny State"( no pun intended) forum.I do not like to see personal attacks and insults but I do like to see lively, grown up discussions where we can agree to disagree, and have a think about one anothers opinions. I will watch this space!

Yes, and surely we don't need people complaining on behalf of anyone who might possibly be hurt/upset/disgruntled, even when no one has actually said they feel hurt/upset etc.

Just to clarify, I think jingls was upset about outside events over which we have no control (and which are upsetting all of us), not about anything personal.

To forestall any more misconstructions of my meaning, I'm not talking about people being upset or down because of events in their lives that we know nothing about, nor am I talking about people who are clinically depressed or otherwise ill. I'm talking about people whose upset is 'caused' by something someone says on a gransnet thread.

I think what Tegan posted could be apt under the circumstances, if you don't mind me quoting this Tegan:
Maybe people could think before they post sometimes or realise that what they say might hurt people. I'm down enough at this moment in time without this.
I am not saying that Jingls appeared hurt in the thread she started, rather very upset, ranting and asking what can be done when the absolute truth is that we don't have an answer. Sometimes it helps to rant even if we feel helpless about something, to know that others share our angst.
But to then be challenged in quite an aggressive manner changes the dynamic, skews the thread and upsets people even more.

Maybe Jings rather enjoyed sailing close to the wind, in a way? She's quite mischievous, I think.

If jingls was barred because of posts on the thread I think it was, then that is totally unjustified imo.

I agree with mcem and the previous post (was it on here or on the other thread, I am losing the plot track!) about it being a bit like school.
If we got three reports in a term we could be expelled. They were for fairly innocuous misdemeanours by today's standards. 'Other punishments were available' but not so harsh - but all were read out in assembly. I seemed to get a lot of the lesser naughty marks (but never a report, undetected crime).

However - in football looks like one misdemeanour and you're out!

And I think the Big Sisters should be looking at the bigger issue rather than at one example of high-handed banning. It's clear that many posters are less concerned with the return of a single poster and more concerned about the Nanny attitudes.

I think the Big Sisters should compare the number of complaints (and the number of GNers who make them) they get about Jings' remarks on threads with the clear support she gets on the open forum from other posters. And then unban her.
