A couple of us queried whether it was really "research" or just someone raising the subject to talk about it. Anyone can SAY that they are doing research, and ask personal questions. A serious researcher wouldn't be asking vague questions on a chat site, anyway.

He did say he or she was doing research.

I queried it as in I asked whether that was allowed on gransnet without paying a fee.
I cant remember who it was who replied, it could have been Elegran but not sure, and she said that no, the fee didnt need to be paid [or something like that]. I cant remember the reason she gave. Something about the research wasnt proper research, just asking a bunch of grans and granpas without doing a proper study. Sorry to be vague, I cant quite remember exactly.

It wasn't cheeky, gillybob, just treated as a serious subject. But I'm quite glad it's gone because the subject was upsetting for me, I'd rather forget.
Thanks for explaining, JA.

Does this mean that we can now be fairly certain that those at GNHQ are definitely NOT swingers?

gillybob Sun 02-Oct-16 17:51:03

Hmmmphh trust me to miss a cheeky thread. Typical .

I didn't take his posts seriously at all. As I said I just thought he was wanting to trigger a potentially salacious thread. That's what got me thinking about a recently departed poster.

janeainsworth Sun 02-Oct-16 17:24:03

Jane 10 In his second post, the OP said this:
'My posting is a research project posted in the hope that aduilts on this site will give their honest views on the subject of what is called "swinging"' (sic)

Call me cynical, but the 'research project' did not have the ring of truth about it.

I thought he did say he was doing research for some reason or another. He just quoted from some woman's article or blog - Elegran investigated!

Caretaker had posted twice before, one about barbeques and then a thread entitled 'What attracted you to your parter?'. Obviously our responses weren't as detailed as he'd have liked! grin

Jane10 Sun 02-Oct-16 16:30:35

He never said he was doing research. Just mentioned some research done by some woman in America. It just felt like a trigger topic.

janeainsworth Sun 02-Oct-16 15:46:36

Sorry everyone it was me.

I don't report posts because I think a poster has been nasty or upset someone. I think it's better for those sort of posts to remain, so that everyone can judge for themselves whether a poster has been nasty or not, and so the membership can hold someone to account, if they think nastiness has occurred.

But Gransnet is free to use.

It is not free to run.

So if I think someone has tried to evade paying for something they should have paid for, or if they are trying to sneak an advert in that they should have paid for, or if, occasionally, a message contains a link that might contain a virus, then I report the post.

In the thread that you are referring to, the poster claimed he was doing research. He should have put it in the media/research forum and paid £30.

Personally I thought he was bullsh*tting and was hoping to elicit a few saucy replies. IMHO that's also a good reason to delete a thread.

TriciaF Sun 02-Oct-16 15:13:41

It could have been a new post from an opportunist who fancied his/her chances on Gransnet smile

Jane10 Sun 02-Oct-16 15:09:57

Gosh. Was that all? Very disappointing.

Ana Sun 02-Oct-16 14:58:19

Nudism, that's all.

We've had far worse threads which haven't been deleted.

Elegran Sun 02-Oct-16 14:56:30

Mention of, not depiction.

Ana Sun 02-Oct-16 14:48:44

I didn't see any nudity! grin

jollyg Sun 02-Oct-16 14:46:35

Funny folk at HQ.

I saw the thread and to me it was not offensive, however must confess not to reading the OPs initial post re the article, there was a bit of nudity, nothing untoward in my opinion.

DaphneBroon Sun 02-Oct-16 14:43:09

Keep up at the back! grin

BlueBelle Sun 02-Oct-16 14:41:36

Missed it again I miss all the fun

Jane10 Sun 02-Oct-16 14:39:43

I was wondering who had gone too far. Very mysterious!

DaphneBroon Sun 02-Oct-16 14:35:02

Damn! My "swingeing" comment about swingeing (sic) has consequently disappeared into the aether. sad

TriciaF Sun 02-Oct-16 14:32:05

Swinging - I'm a bit concerned about why you deleted this thread, as I perhaps said too much there?
Whatever the reason, best out of the way.
pm me the reply if you prefer.
