Thank you all. As Katek says, it has happened before, but seemed to clear itself. At the moment it appears OK. To be fair, I think that since I 'upgraded' a little while ago, my Ipad doesn't always behave itself, and also I now have Gmail and googlemail, I didn't ask for two !! 
Hello! Nothing's changed from this end, but as someone said above, if you've cleared your browser, cookies or your internet security has done a clean up for you, you'll need to click on the 'keep me logged in' button again. Hopefully this will sort it for you
