Edit button

I think the last time it was mentioned ( and it's been mentioned quite often) is that it's a technical issue and also there was a concern about people editing posts and causes conflict.

I agree with you , it's a basic standard everywhere else ?

Have to agree, some other forums have a 5 min edit cut off, so any edit is only avaliable to a poster in that time.

It would only be possible to edit your own posts anyway ...... I have no understanding what conflict you could cause that isn't already caused on here haha
It's a standard facility for every other forum I ve visited even worldwide ones so no idea why it would be considered technically difficult

How would that help if two (or more) posters were having a rather heated argument?

Poster 1. could tell Poster 2. to 'F Off and stop being such a cow', which would lead to a backlash not only from Poster 2. but anyone else reading the thread at the time.

Meanwhile, within the 5 minutes, Poster 1. edits her post to something bland and GNHQ has no idea why they're supposed to delete it!

But t would have gone anyway Ana so it wouldn't be a post. It sounds to me that you want there to be some sort of discipline from above rather than posters being responsible and removing things they shouldn't have said in the first place.

What do you mean, it would have gone Trisher? If you mean the insulting post, it would have been seen by some, then edited to say something innocuous.

It's nothing to do with wanting 'discipline from above', but posts could be edited within the 5 minutes or whatever to change their meaning completely after several people have replied to the first version!

This is along the lines of the reason given by GNHQ for not allowing us to have an 'edit' button some years ago.

I agree with BB - an edit button would be great, and many have asked the same question again and again.

I type very fast and must say I never check and often see mistakes later - so I should get into the habit of checking... but

Completely agree that we need an edit button. Like granjura, I also type very quickly and pressing enter before I've checked. On FB there's a facility to View Edits, not sure how that works, but maybe GNHQ would be able to access that to prevent misunderstandings of comments based on removed posts. (I've checked this one, but I'm still not sure the last sentence makes sense ... ah well, hopefully you know what I mean!)

Anther forum I am on allows edits until someone else has read it. I don't know how they do this though

One of the sites I visit allows edits but if others have posted afterwards you must state why you have edited your post (usually people just say 'typo')

I'm not saying my first scenario would happen often, if at all, but it's a possibility that was put forward before when we asked GNHQ why they were so insistent we couldn't have an edit button.

Posts are often replied to later or even the next day. so not always immediately. Any immediate replies would be very few . It seems to me that an edit button might lead to less reports to GNHQ and hence would simplify life for them. Of course I suppose some people would prefer to be able to report others but I really don't understand why.

I think 'angry' posts would be sent in the heat of the moment in reply to another already on the thread.

Quite frankly, I don't really see the need for an edit button - we all make typos and there is the preview option! And as some posters don't seem to care how rude they are anyway there probably wouldn't be many 'second thoughts' edits.

They could abolish the 'report' button too for all I care!
