Can't we have a feminist board so there's somewhere I can go and talk to myself on feminist issues?

Maggiemaybe Sat 01-Apr-17 20:32:10

Ah, I'm glad about that, janea. I'm not imagining things then (or at least, not this time). smile

Maggie There did used to be a Feminism forum, as I surmised on page one of this thread wink

I've been out and have only read bits and pieces of this thread. However the suggestion that we have a Forum Topic 'Feminism ' has given me a pause for thought. I think it's a good idea.

Feminism isn't just about equal pay, time has moved on and it's much broader. Not least because of gays rights and transgenic issues.

Language Timothy!!
Oh yes, I should have put that on the sayings from films and tv thread
I often say it to DH
but that is another time when I am talking to myself grin

grannypiper Sat 01-Apr-17 18:40:34

Jalima i am glad its not just me who wanders round the supermarket talking to myself grin

MawBroon Sat 01-Apr-17 18:28:14

Who you calling a gruntfuttocker?
Language Timothy!!

phoenix Sat 01-Apr-17 17:52:16

Thanks Pogs grin

I don't mind going slightly mad, if I am, but I'd prefer not to do it alone! wink

Being a bit slow on the uptake I didn't know what you meant at first Rigby46 but now have read thro' the posts I think that under a Forum Topic "Feminism" would be a splendid idea and I would support it. Why should Mumsnet have all the fun? I can't say I am an expert and guess am an old fashioned type of feminist.

Jalima Sat 01-Apr-17 17:39:23

Women's Room sounds rather like 'Ladies' Lavatories^ grin

Dear Mrs Broon

I think the term would be gruntfuttocker ie an acolyte of Gruntfuttock.

Yours sincerely
Daphne Whitethigh

Are you? Bet a lot would be put off in case they got shouted at...

Jalima Sat 01-Apr-17 17:31:33

Do you need a board, though, if you are going to talk to yourself - I do that at home all the time. And when I'm out too, which does tend to attract strange looks.

However, if there is one, I am sure people will contribute their ideas and views.

POGS Sat 01-Apr-17 16:47:50

No not just you.

Being a lazy arse pushed for time, I haven't read the whole thread. But does anyone else think that there used to be a Feminist forum on Gransnet? I say so only because shortly after I joined in 2012 I posted what I thought was a jolly little anecdote re something DH had said to me which was slightly less than supportive of my dreams of being a Booker prize winning author grin. I was taken aback by how seriously it was taken and how harsh the criticism of the poor eejit was, until I realised I was (wasn't I?) on the Feminist forum.

Or have I dreamt this? confused

That aside, I feel that if others think there is a need for a Feminist forum, we should have one. Why not? I doubt I'll be using it though - I've just popped into the one on Mumsnet and backed out slowly and quietly before anyone noticed I was there...

grannypiper Sat 01-Apr-17 15:20:59

rigby I jumped to that conclusion after your post yesterday at 08:33:43 re negative language against other women.

Galen Sat 01-Apr-17 15:00:16

Woman's room?
Surely, we're all ladiees on here?

janeainsworth Sat 01-Apr-17 12:45:55

Well done to your GD anno.
I think there's a lot of pressure on young people now to make a career for themselves in a survival-of-the -fittest sort of way.
It's refreshing to hear that some do have altruistic ideals & vision.

MawBroon Sat 01-Apr-17 11:23:33

I don't agree it was to investigate/discuss what is or isn't "Feminism" Elegran, OP said she would like to see a board (forum?) where she says she can "talk to myself on feminist issues".

I would ask WHO decides what is or isn't a "feminist issue" but I won't because I really don't want all that to start up again.

phoenix Sat 01-Apr-17 11:17:00

Actually, when you think about it, it is almost an object lesson in how a thread can become a slanging match!

"Discussion" my arse!

phoenix Sat 01-Apr-17 11:13:43

Anyone else thinking "here we bloody go again" or is it just me?

annodomini Sat 01-Apr-17 10:59:04

I would like to broaden this discussion by introducing a 13-year-old blogger, my lovely GD. To the question,'why am I a feminist', she wrote:

"Because, there are girls out there who would be killed for reading a book, for going to school, for speaking her mind, for saying "No" to a man who does not want to listen. There are girls out in the world who are forced to marry even before they become teenagers, I do not need feminism because I already have it. But, they do need it. So I will stand with them, I will help them every step of the way. And I will label myself with the term feminist, because I want to help girls who are not able to help themselves. In my life, I wish to help people. I want to go out into the world and help people in any way I can. I can do that, do you want to know why? Because, I am a girl and I can do anything."

Although I would question the assertion that she doesn't 'need feminism' - wait till she gets out into the wider world - I am so proud of her wider perspective on feminism with which I unreservedly agree.
