My email inbox has been swamped with notifications that somebody has posted on any thread I have ever watched!
I have not requested this, how do I stop them coming?

Nelliemoser Thu 25-Jan-18 12:14:49

WTF from me as well I just saw this when
I was checking my emails loads of Notifications in my Email inbox.

Please sort this out. ASAP

LauraGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 25-Jan-18 12:16:22

Hi all. We're looking into it as we speak.

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 25-Jan-18 12:26:26

Hello, we're sorry the preference link isn't very well signposted at the moment. We'll sort that out now. But you can update your preferences here in the meantime: www.gransnet.com/forums?call=Preferences

Yes - been out an hour and a full inbox!

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 16:42:11

Lara the Preference page doesn't say anything about email notifications. confused

JoyBloggs Thu 25-Jan-18 17:01:44

Ditto what Wilma just said...

NanaandGrampy Thu 25-Jan-18 17:11:56

In the other thread on this Lara has commented that actually that link doesn't work and this 'spamming' wasn't what they had in mind at all , so hopefully that means they'll turn it off until there's an opt out option?

Maggiemaybe Thu 25-Jan-18 17:30:15

As I said on the other thread, I've had just the one email, informing me that someone had posted today on a 3 year old thread I've never posted on (till today). grin

Should I feel neglected?

kittylester Thu 25-Jan-18 17:37:44

I haven't had anything - I'm really neglected!

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:41:32

I tried the unsubscribe link at the bottom of one of the emails and I did get a proper acknowledgement page, but it hasn't worked either - yet.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:46:24

Looks like it is just the chosen few then kitty. So who has been naughty then - me or you? grin

Auntieflo Thu 25-Jan-18 17:53:15

I've just logged in after being 'away' for most of the day, and have also been swamped by these notifications??? I was going to plead How did this happen? but see that there are lots if others swamped as well. I haven't altered any settings, in fact, not sure how to do that confused. Glad GN gurus are on to it, let's hope they soon sort it. Now to delete all the inbox gatecrashers.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:55:43

maggie all the emails I've had a current ones I post on.

I didn't get the first email until 12.30 this afternoon, so perhaps someone has just flicked the switch too soon.

The emails have stopped now.

Nelliemoser Thu 25-Jan-18 18:20:24

What was GNHQ trying to do in the first place. Is anyone else getting thorougly pissed off with these notifications.
It is the last flipping thing I want on GN is notifications. I get enough crap in my Email inbox as it is .
What a daft idea this was.
I am thoroughly fed up of getting pop up intrusions from other sites as it is.
The GNHQ explanations on the WTF thread seem just to be about whether or not you want to read your threads bottom up or top down. I have not seen any explanation of why these notifcations were sent in the first place.
Yes the threads are all well out of date.

Why was this thought to be a good idea in the first place?

Maggiemaybe Thu 25-Jan-18 18:25:21

I know, Wilma, it's a bit weird that I've had my email, referring to a thread I'd never taken part in! Perhaps GNHQ have taken me over! The email just said:

Someone has posted on the following thread:
pension NI contributions, and no job, problem

I suppose I should be thankful I didn't get a notification for every single GN thread, ever!

MawBroon Thu 25-Jan-18 18:25:24

Hear hear
I am absolutely fed up with them and despite what GNHQ say, there is NO way to turn these off.
Trialling a new idea, they said.
Well it’s a failure , PLEASE STOP

Chewbacca Thu 25-Jan-18 19:46:29

How many times do you have to back into preferences and tick to say that you don't want any notifications before they actually stop sending them? My email inbox has dozens of emails and it's really, really annoying now.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 20:49:17

I don't have anything in Preferences to change? confused

Chewbacca Thu 25-Jan-18 21:32:25

Makes no difference Wilma. I've now had 48 emails and on each one of them it says that I can click on "Talk Preferences" to opt out of receiving notifications. I've done that 48 times and I'm still getting them. I've even reported my own posts to GNHQ asking them to stop sending the emails. The acknowledgement email I got back was from Mumsnet!

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 26-Jan-18 00:53:55

I don't have a Talk Preferences, but I posted earlier to say I tried the unsubscribe link at the bottom of one of the emails and I did get a proper acknowledgement page, but it hasn't worked either.

WilmaKnickersfit Fri 26-Jan-18 00:54:30

Give them a chance to fix the problem.

BlueBelle Fri 26-Jan-18 06:33:34

I ve not had any ..... never done or signed anything Why are some getting some not then
