Should say "aren't interested" on post above. Please get rid of Facebook.

Please take Facebook off your site, I don't like it and don't use it. If it remains I will leave Gransnet, which I do enjoy. I know that research had been published that says the older generation use FB far more than the young, but this intrusion into a pleasant browse would seem to be an attempt to cash in to the advertising revenue FB brings to say nothing of the fake news FB publishes.I also note that when I tried to get into the first post of today, the FB tab said 48 people liked it - what I couldn't tell, because I couldn't reach the post, but 48 likes on a website as big as Gransnet sends its own message - people are interested. And please republish these posts without the share tag so I can get in.

Facebook is discovering that youngsters are disappearing in droves.

Next target market is the oldies, US, not US but GNS.

Profit at any price duh

Dear Tom - What happens is that 1. We receive the email with the postings. 2. We click on the first posting, and read all the comments. 3. We click on the next posting, etc, etc. BUT on one posting on todays email lists, the FB message to click "like on Face Book" comes on and there is no way of removing it. So we cant read the post. Its got nothing to do with the "share" link. FaceBook has kidnapped this post.
4. Imagine, Tom, you are in a restaurant with your friends. You order, and then the waiter comes and says to you "Sorry you need to move to another table". So you goodnaturedly (because thats who you are) get up and move. You lift up your fork, and the waiter comes back "sorry, you need to move to another table", and so, not-so-goodnatiuredly, you get up and move.
And so on and so on.
You NEVER did get to eat your dinner.
That's what is happening here.

Seems it's a glitch on the first thread link on the daily email, the others are OK. Hopefully it won't happen again.
I like the daily as it gives a heads up on competitions, book club etc. I rarely click on the thread links as I prefer to look at all the active threads rather than just selected ones.

BlueBelle Tue 20-Feb-18 15:57:54

Obviously doesn’t happen in Norfolk and Suffolk Nfkdumpling

blueberry1 Tue 20-Feb-18 15:53:37

Also finding this pop-up extremely annoying.I left FB last year and will never go back on it.Please allow us to read the first thread on the e-mail or I may be leaving GN too!

NfkDumpling Tue 20-Feb-18 15:45:18

What daily email? I don’t get one - not that I want one, I get enough dross as it is.

BlueBelle Tue 20-Feb-18 15:43:58

I don’t get a daily email so not missing anything then ???

Bamm Tue 20-Feb-18 15:34:48

Can't access the first post and I want to know why there is no hope for the poster.

HAZBEEN Tue 20-Feb-18 15:31:58

Bluebell, the daily email has the link on. If you try to click on a thread it asked you to share on Facebook but wont let you get past to the thread unless you share. The share link will not close and the only thing to do is go directly onto Gransnet site then look for the threads you want to view.

BlueBelle Tue 20-Feb-18 15:24:33

I m not getting any pop ups, what are people meaning?

HAZBEEN Tue 20-Feb-18 15:21:57

Have already posted on another thread about this but just to repeat NO! The share tab does not go way and I cannot click on the thread I want. Please stop this!

mcem Tue 20-Feb-18 15:11:09

Haven't seen any yet but I do not want to be any more involved with FB.
Already avoiding the 'livechat on FB' aspect of GN.

Another BIG thumbs down!!!!!!

hildajenniJ Tue 20-Feb-18 15:07:46

Tom, I had a Facebook account until just before Christmas when I was the victim of a hacker. Fortunately nothing untoward happened, but it put me right off FB so I cancelled my account and left, never intending to return.
So, please let's not be directed to a Facebook page. ??

OldMeg Tue 20-Feb-18 14:58:10

Another Thumbs Down ?????

NannaM Tue 20-Feb-18 14:47:02

Well TomGransnet here is one VERY BIG thumbs down! Beyond frustrating to not be able to read a post because the FB redirect wont go away!!

TomGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 20-Feb-18 14:37:40

Hi all,

This is a feature we had previously and have been looking at bringing back. If you click on the thread you should get the thread as ever - if you don't want to share simply don't click on share. But we are grateful for your feedback and ironing out any kinks.

Jane10 Tue 20-Feb-18 14:28:35

I don't have these NannaM is there something you can do to your browser to prevent them?

NannaM Tue 20-Feb-18 14:26:03

Please Gransnet, STOP this new, really frustrating practice of inserting FB popups onto new discussions. These popups keep reappearing, and it is impossible to read the original post.
Lots of us only use the Gransnet website. Lots of us dont want to be redirected to FB.
Please stop!!
If this continues, I shall reluctantly leave these forums. I don't use FaceBook, and don't intend to be forced to use it.
