Directing readers to FaceBook

Please Gransnet, STOP this new, really frustrating practice of inserting FB popups onto new discussions. These popups keep reappearing, and it is impossible to read the original post.
Lots of us only use the Gransnet website. Lots of us dont want to be redirected to FB.
Please stop!!
If this continues, I shall reluctantly leave these forums. I don't use FaceBook, and don't intend to be forced to use it.

Hello, there was an optional Share button on the newsletter. There was obviously a glitch on them though because the main thread shouldn't have taken you through to Facebook. We're going to put the share button on hold until we're sure they're going to work properly. Thanks and sorry they've spoilt your enjoyment of the newsletter yesterday.

I'm not on facebook either - want to know about giving up hope.

mcem Wed 21-Feb-18 16:37:13

Any update please GNHQ?

grannysyb Wed 21-Feb-18 11:36:23

Seems to have disappeared thank goodness!

HootyMcOwlface Wed 21-Feb-18 11:32:43

Happened to me too yesterday. The links on the email just opened a pop up to share on Facebook and wouldn't let you open the posting. I only got on by using an old link and searching for Active discussions. Seems OK today though so far anyway.

Madgran77 Wed 21-Feb-18 10:46:32

I also cant get FB link to go away so cant read posts. Ridiculous

loopyloo Wed 21-Feb-18 10:43:55

Please sort this out !

henetha Wed 21-Feb-18 10:27:30

This really annoyed me on my phone yesterday, I couldn't read anything on GN because of the blooming Facebook intervention. I'm not on Facebook, -don't want to be.
So please don't take it for granted that we all are.

pollyperkins Wed 21-Feb-18 10:24:39

Well they seem to have removed it as it hasn't come up on todays GN email. Thank goodness. They have listened to all our complaints it seems!

joannapiano Wed 21-Feb-18 10:17:56

I don't want Facebook and don't like the links from GN that I can't access. My life is busy, but very humdrum, who on Earth would be interested in it?

grannysyb Wed 21-Feb-18 10:01:20

BlueBelle, how do I do that? Im technically challenged!

BlueBelle Wed 21-Feb-18 08:33:51

I love fb Ginny but don’t share any groups with it and don’t use GN on there why would I I use it here
Can you not put an icon on your iPad or desktop or whatever you use and just click on the icon then you get no intrusions at all

Ginny42 Wed 21-Feb-18 08:31:24

There is a 'share' against all posts listed in the daily email I receive. Each one I click on comes up with the FB pop-up and I can get no further. As I don't do FB it is a pointless and irritating intrusion. Why would anyone over the age of 20 want all their FB friends to know what they're doing anyway?

jusnoneed Wed 21-Feb-18 08:21:15

Another one who doesn't get any email from Gnet, maybe I'm missing something but don't see the point when I can just come onto the site from my bookmarks.

I use FB a lot but never connect to other sites with it.

BlueBelle Wed 21-Feb-18 08:02:43

Mawboon I m in ignorance too I just have a GN icon on my home page and click into that No problems no fb I wrongly presumed everyone did it that way
Can’t the people having the problems just put an icon up and click into it like we do
I m using my iPad so the mobile option

MawBroon Wed 21-Feb-18 07:51:14

I am in blissful ignorance of all this.
GN opens at the “Active conversations “page for me, I never log out and there is no reference to FB anywhere. So I am confused
Are you using the Desktop site (I am) ?

NfkDumpling Wed 21-Feb-18 07:43:37

Thanks Marydoll. I don’t think I’ll bother to look for it just yet though! I’ve saved the Forums page onto my PC and tablet so the Gransnet Icon comes straight onto here and don’t log in either. I have to make the effort to remember to look at competitions and such like when I feel like a browse.

loopyloo Wed 21-Feb-18 07:34:29

No Toni, it doesn't go away. The only way I can access gransnet is via on old page. Why should we have Facebook forced on us?

Marydoll Wed 21-Feb-18 07:21:05

In "My Gransnet," there is a setting to request a daily email. You just check or uncheck the box as required.
On my desktop site, it is at the bottom of the page.
I'm up in arms, as I keeping getting a pop up asking me to share on FB and you can't get rid of it. It stays stuck on the page. I hate Facebook.
I usually go in on the Gransnet icon which is saved as a favourite on my PC and tablet. No need to log in all the time.
Hope this makes sense.

loopyloo Wed 21-Feb-18 07:21:00

Yes please get rid of Facebook, I don't seem to be able to get past it.

BlueBelle Wed 21-Feb-18 06:40:03

You and me both Nfkdumpling What’s it all about? I m in the dark never had a daily email perhaps we are the chosen few I don’t understand what everyone’s up in arms about do you ?

NfkDumpling Tue 20-Feb-18 20:59:04

Where’s this ‘ere Daily Mail?

winterwhite Tue 20-Feb-18 17:29:49

Another voice here for please get rid of Facebook link. Don’t belong to Fb, don’t intend to join. As other posters have said, imposs to get round it the ‘share’ pop-up.
Thank you.

grannysyb Tue 20-Feb-18 17:22:55

Hear, hear, have already posted on another thread about how annoying this is, for goodness sake get rid of it!

Bernice123 Tue 20-Feb-18 17:20:52

I'm another one who looks forward to the daily email and it's the first thing I read when I get home from work. But today I was unable to access the first post as the Facebook message comes up and won't go away. It just keeps popping up. This will put people off Gransnet and would rather not have Facebook involvement. Please stop this.
