I can’t see where changing your name would help anonimity

It would prevent someone who thinks they recognise your situation from being able to search for other posts you have made, to look for clues to your identity.

No-one can classify which topics are "sensitive". It depends on the individual, what they would feel sensitive about.

MN allows users to change name as much as they like. Mostly it seems to work out fine, with a few exceptions
Why we can't be trusted to have the same system, I have no idea.

Only being able to have two names could still cause problems, if a person uses the second name only to make "sensitive" posts.

Go on, GN, why not treat us like adults?

What a coincidence. I just clicked on a Mumsnet link to what I thought would be an interesting thread and found this message from MNHQ:

I came across sockpuppeting on another site years back. It was quite common on there, but it was a big surprise when it turned out that two of the most prolific posters were one and the same person. Some people have way too much time on their hands.

That would defeat the object of being anonymous though.

If the number of posts made by a user was shown next to their name then it would give a clue that the user was either new or using a second user name. Would also show up the ‘half term' posters
