Without going into this further, can we just stop doing this please. I’ve done it and had it done to me and I think it’s just petty and childish and we should just stop it - does anyone agree with me?

You can say whatever you like Anniebach grin
(within GNHQ guidelines of course)

Fennel Sun 10-Jun-18 19:56:18

You can say that again Annie. (You can say ........)

Anniebach Sun 10-Jun-18 10:35:19

It rarely happens now. Been replaced by a need to control threads .

merlotgran Sun 10-Jun-18 10:32:02

I wonder how long it will be before she does it again? grin

pollyperkins Sun 10-Jun-18 08:40:17

There's one poster in perticular who has rather brutally corrected grammar/spelling/punctuation with no reference to the content of the post, which I thought very rude. I can't remember her name but she's not been on this thread.

There have been a lot of comments about this but I'm not sure its happening a great deal is it ?
Maybe other posters can give their experiences.

We didn't correct other people's spelling or grammar in the early days. We all agreed it was impolite. Why is it happening now?

absent Sun 10-Jun-18 06:04:10

I have degrees in English and have taught both GCSE, A Level and ESOL– no big achievement but relevant here – and would never correct another poster's spelling or grammar simply because that is discourteous. However, if the post is difficult to understand because of the use of language, I would probably ask for clarification. That is polite.

mcem, your right, it's just an interesting concept a written telephone voice.

I agree though good to know when enough is enough.

Has she got a name?
You may wish to not answer that grin

Jalima1108 Thu 07-Jun-18 20:56:24

so she doesn't answer back.
Yet.

Jalima1108 Thu 07-Jun-18 20:55:19

I must go and sew up dolly.
DH thinks I have lost the plot because I talk to her (she hasn't got a face yet).

Anniebach Thu 07-Jun-18 20:46:49

I give up, wish I could find a craft to take up some time .

MawBroon Thu 07-Jun-18 20:38:56

Right, so we are now on page 2 and I think that there is a general consensus that we should not comment on how posters express their opinions.
May we comment on the opinions?
And perhaps the inventor of the spellchecker could apply his/her inventive talents to dveloping the “bullsh*t checker”? grin

mcem Thu 07-Jun-18 20:30:49

Ally I'd like to think that but am wondering if there isn't some sort of equivalent of the telephone voice and I 'd like to think folk here are a bit more relaxed.
Not a major issue. Not worth picking away at.
Watching a dog worrying a bone can get a bit irritating, eh?

Allygran1 Thu 07-Jun-18 19:30:26

This thread was about correcting people, not insulting and abusing them. Which we all seem to take from some. I suppose we should retaliate, but that would make those who do it think we care.

Allygran1 Thu 07-Jun-18 19:27:34

"mcem Thu 07-Jun-18 16:20:38
ally far from 'not pointing out glaring errors', I'm simply saying that seem to want to want to make some sort of impression by 'talking posh' and that it's just not necessary in a supposedly relaxed and informal situation like GN."

With respect mcem, I really don't understand why it would bother you. Surely people "talk" the way they 'talk'. It's like some sort of reverse snobbery.

Allygran1 Thu 07-Jun-18 19:24:06

Farmore15 I bet you were popular.

maryeliza54 Thu 07-Jun-18 16:37:47

Been = mean

maryeliza54 Thu 07-Jun-18 16:37:22

I think there are plenty of posts on here which state the exact opposite - because you havn’t seen them does not actually been they don’t exist
