Hi gransnetters
A quick heads up that, starting today, we're trialling some tech that will enable users to manage their cookie preferences (sadly, not the choc-chip variety). This approach is considered best practice: giving people more control, and aligning with GDPR and the recently updated Data Protection Act.
We have tried to make it not too annoying, but apologies in advance for any interruption to your browsing -- as ever, it's a balancing act.
Here's how it should work:
1. The first time you visit a Gransnet page you should see a pop up along the bottom of the screen. You can choose to accept all cookies, by clicking ‘I Agree’, or you can manage your individual preferences by clicking ‘show purposes’.
2. At the bottom right hand side of the Privacy Policy page and in your account settings you should see a settings toggle at the bottom right of the screen which says ‘Privacy settings’. If you click on this, a pop up should appear at the bottom of the screen. Here you can manage all your individual cookie preferences.
We have already launched this on our sister site Mumsnet, and there have been a few known issues with ad blockers and Firefox. This is because ad blockers prevent the consent management system from being able to record your preferences. In this instance, the easiest solution is to exclude your ad blocker from running on the Gransnet site, otherwise you may need to contact your ad blocker directly to find out if they have a work around for this. In addition, we are also aware that Firefox has integrated ad blocking features which similarly prevent the system from being able to record your preferences. In this instance, we have found that by adding Gransnet to its own 'container' and the instructions to do that are here addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/
Thanks for reading this far! Any issues please let us know.
