Changing your Gransnet username

Has anyone else changed their username on Gransnet? And if so, why? (I am The Grandma Previously Known As David1968 and I've changed it, because I was concerned that I might appear to be a Grandpa.) How is everyone else getting on with their chosen user name? Are you happy with it? Or any regrets? Have you made changes? I'm wondering if it's just me.....

Mamguu
I think you are on the wrong thread.

Querty Sun 24-Dec-23 09:50:11

Let’s see if this works.
I wanted qwerty but wasn’t allowed! I thought it was easy to type!

Has anyone else struggling with having lost a young person in their family?

Well, you are all a lot more imaginative than me grin

I really dislike mine. After lurking for many years and seeing many interesting posts I ventured to join in fairly recently. I was trying to come up with a happy and optimistic moniker.
Started with bright and was thinking maybe bright and breezy or bright star or bright and white. Couldn't quite come up with what I wanted and unfortunately pressed the button before I was finished. Have no clue how to change it so I guess I'm stuck with it.

Haha ...not very bright grin

Ah that makes sense! I know I have been on some sites where the username is actually very little used, if at all, and I've wondered why on earth I've been required to choose one hmm

Davida1968 Mon 13-May-19 15:28:46

Thanks Bathsheba - I may end up doing what you suggest.

Davida1968 Mon 13-May-19 15:27:20

David is a family name and 1968 is a significant year for me.
Being a Bear Of Little Brain (when it comes to using tech), I hadn't realised that my username would be "used" and thus "open" to others, in this way!! (I do realise how pathetic this sounds.) I'm on no other social media "platforms", so I wasn't used to this. Now I know!

Bathsheba Mon 13-May-19 11:16:05

I'm curious though. Why did you originally choose the name David1968 as your username if you are female? Surely you would have guessed people would think you were a granddad?!

Bathsheba Mon 13-May-19 11:13:41

Davida1968 lots of people have changed their names more than once - they just close their account, wait a few days/weeks, and re-join with a new username wink

Urmstongran Mon 13-May-19 10:43:06

Fair point.
?

Davida1968 Mon 13-May-19 10:04:02

Urmstongran, I added the number in case anyone used the same name - "David". (I note that there is at least one other "David" on Gransnet.) And as Justme67 has outlined, there are other reasons why people choose to use numbers, as well.

Davida1968 Mon 13-May-19 10:00:01

Oh dear, it appears (to me) that you are only allowed to change your user name once, on Gransnet. So having changed my user name from David968 to Davida1968, It seems that I now to have to stick with it, and thus I can't add in gran (If any GNs know differently, please tell me - I am not the brightest tech user!)

Bathsheba Mon 13-May-19 08:30:04

I don’t think they switch our usernames to our real names on Facebook Bradfordlass. What you see on Facebook are comments from people on Facebook, comments added to the story after it appears there.

Justme67 Mon 13-May-19 08:26:58

I left and came back again with my new name, which in fact just suddenly came to me. It was just after my husband died, and he had so been looking forward to celebrating 67 years of marriage, boasted almost embarrassingly about being married to me for 66 years, he died on 10th February; our anniversary was 8th March, so it is JUSTME67. The reason I left? spending too much time here!

Urmstongran Mon 13-May-19 07:46:23

I’m just curious why some of you use a number? I’d have thought just a name (some are very witty) would be sufficient?

NfkDumpling Mon 13-May-19 07:09:09

I suppose it’s because you’re speaking as a FB identity rather than a GN one. But it does make you realise how much more open we can be on GN - and rude.

mumofmadboys Mon 13-May-19 06:49:29

Do they? I am really surprised they can quote you using your real name. That is ridiculous and takes away our what I thought was a guarantee of anonymity!

NfkDumpling Mon 13-May-19 06:25:30

Yes Lemon and I'm not sure I like it. I have to be careful what I say!

BradfordLass72 Mon 13-May-19 06:00:08

lemongrove I notice that when opinions from here are re-posted on Facebook, they use your real name not you GN alias.

kittylester Sun 12-May-19 18:54:57

I have had my user names since I joined and hope never to have to change it - or i will get very confused.

Charleygirl5 Sun 12-May-19 18:16:49

Davida I think that is much better and does not leave anybody with any doubts.

Davida1968 Sun 12-May-19 17:08:06

Thanks for your posts and comments. I can see that simply adding the "a" may be insufficient. Charleygirl I like the way you added "girl". Perhaps I should do something like that. And be Davidagran1968?

Grandad1943 Sun 12-May-19 16:40:08

Very happy with my username as it definitely confirms I am one of the few males this forum.

Just the same with almost all other stages throughout in my life, I would not change a thing.smile

And have never been a conformer

B9exchange Sun 12-May-19 15:53:11

Or a face cream? grin

I changed mine because it really was too identifiable.
