The Decline and Fall of GN?

There used to be on GN some very funny if sometimes a bit ascerbic posters. Most of them seem to have gone. In fact it seems that any controversial and slightly contentious post or thread is wiped by GNHQ. The future seems to be pleasant nice postings (which are fine if you need support) or playing games. It seems that GN like the rest of society only accepts boring old farts. If you comment please don't mention other threads or this will be deleted (That ruling suppresses any complaining doesn't it!!!)

Me too maw. I am getting tired of being reported by pearl clutchers who faint then complain about my admittedly sometimes robust posts.

Well I can't think of any other reason for the disparity in what is acceptable on one site, but not the other petra. But that would be an odd thing, for a forum that's specifically aimed for older people, to be guilty of, wouldn't it? As I said upthread, I suspect that it's hoped that we only discuss how to knit shreddies and play nicely with each other.

I dont think its so much a disparity between sites as a lack of consistancy, rhyme & reason on this one....

Gonegirl Wed 28-Aug-19 19:12:43

Chewbacca grin

We could give it a try. (Pre-arranged of course) ?

Does it depend upon who's on duty, do you think?

Gonegirl Wed 28-Aug-19 19:16:10

I wonder that.

Gonegirl Wed 28-Aug-19 19:17:22

I think Lara's a bit of a stickler. Cari's more likely to be a pushover.

notanan2 Wed 28-Aug-19 19:17:59

Im not sure there always is someone on duty!

Posts where childrens details have been identifiable in the past have had a lot of posters report before there was any gn response?

Gonegirl Wed 28-Aug-19 19:18:01

wink (for Hawkeye)

If there is such a disparity between what is acceptable on Mumsnet and what is on GN Is this age discrimination?

notanan2 Wed 28-Aug-19 19:23:05

Its probably just money.

GN brings in less revenue than MN so gets fewer resources/attention?

Chewbacca Wed 28-Aug-19 19:26:33

Is this age discrimination?

It would be quite amusing if GN was guilty of age discrimination wouldn't it! grin

Gonegirl Wed 28-Aug-19 19:31:46

Who's gonna report 'em?

Marydoll Wed 28-Aug-19 19:33:55

I remember when I first joined GN, I had been forced to retire due to ill health, it was such a tonic, at a time when when I was very low..

I remember Chewy and I trying to out do (and out shock, if there is such a word, ) each other on the Fairy tale thread. grin
My husband kept asking me why I was laughing hysterically.
GN was so informative, interesting and such fun then, I don't know what has happened to it.
Some posters were very robust and fiery then , but rarely cruel or unkind.

Presently there are some posters, who are downright nasty. I can't work out whether they are so unhappy with their lives that they have to lash out, or they are actually downright nasty in real life, hiding behind the anonymity of GN.

Like others, I used to log on eagerly, first thing to read the next instalments. There were a few insomniacs, who used to post in the middle of the night, you never knew what to expect in the morning.

It saddens me that GN has lost its appeal and in some instances camaraderie. (Apart from Soops Kitchen and of course the Good Morning thread.) We have even had posters trying to spoil the gentle Good Morning thread.

Yes!!! Black Mirror Season 3 Episode 1: Nosedive

Spot on! A favorite!!!

notanan2 Wed 28-Aug-19 19:46:23

Who's gonna report 'em?

grin if we all reported GNs own posts would it implode?

Sara65 Wed 28-Aug-19 19:51:25

I’m relatively new, I have looked briefly at mumsnet in the past, and thought it was vile, admittedly, I didn’t look very hard.

I found gransnet to be so much more than I was expecting, such a broad spectrum of ideas and opinions, but I admit, I sometimes log off in disgust!

Boosgran Wed 28-Aug-19 20:02:33

What’s a ‘pearl clutcher’ GillT57?

M0nica Wed 28-Aug-19 21:05:46

Oh is that why that thread was deleted! That really was ridiculous. There were an equal amount of arguments on both sides. Isn't that called a balanced debate?

Callistemon Wed 28-Aug-19 21:10:22

Is Gransnet ageist?
Is that a paradox?

Framilode Wed 28-Aug-19 21:16:42

Boosgran A pearl clutcher is the type of woman who gets far too easily shocked and upset, think Mavis in Coronation Street.

Callistemon Wed 28-Aug-19 21:23:12

Framilode what about a man - what would he clutch?

lemongrove Wed 28-Aug-19 21:25:16

I dread to think! Ask Rufus?

Callistemon Wed 28-Aug-19 21:33:20

Ooh no, might not like the answer
blush
