For years I cooked steak pie for New Year's Day dinner. I had no idea I was keeping up with a tradition! I must be psychic, or something.

I’ve not heard of that Callistemon but I think the rules are very flexible when it comes to whisky and Burns suppers

At a Burns Supper once someone advised me that a tot of whisky should be poured on to the haggis on your plate.

Yep - always steak pie on New Years Day. I make mine from scratch and the DCs insist on there being Wee Willie Winky sausages in there too ( they’re the mini skinless ones)

In my previous life with a National Charitable Organisation I was the only female at a Burns Night Supper.

After my short speech I cannot remember a thing? Apparently I kept up with the men in the Whisky drinking, I think I felt human about 48 hours later

I have been re watching Two Doors Down, they had steak pie New Years Day, said it was tradition.

It could have been New Year's Day.

Yes, my Scottish friend assured me that steak pie was what they ate on New Year's Eve to soak up all the whisky.
She hated it.

Because this is a second tin which I was going to give to the family but they are too health conscious.

How can you have not eaten shortbread from Christmas?!

I knew I should have bought the steak pie from M&S and not the more healthy chicken.

We've got whisky
And a tin of shortbread from Christmas.

(But I hope I don't look like that when I eat it.)

I am going to buy some Sottish shortbread. That'll do me.

DH hasn't mentioned it although he did say "oh look, haggis" when we were in M&S a couple of weeks ago.

Perhaps I'll make him a steak pie
He does have a bit of Scottish blood (but very diluted by now).

Burns night in our house consists of haggis, mashed neeps and tatties, Irn Bru or whisky, and cranachan which is a dessert made of toasted oatmeal, raspberries and cream with some whisky mixed through it
