Are we trapped for ever and ever? I know it is simple not to log in and not to post- but I would prefer to have my account deleted- so I am not tempted to look in and comment. Surely it is against Human Rights to not be allowed to request to be deleted.

Natasha

This is the second thread GNHQ have threatened to delete and I will say again:

Why the threat of pulling this thread when there are other threads past and present that are far worse.

Pulling a thread, as opposed to deleting individual posts, is GNHQ aiding and abetting those posters, who are very often repeat offenders, to continue to carry on making personal attacks as is their want. They would love to feel they have achieved their aim to shut down anybody from holding a different opinion to them by a thread being deleted. You will be doing the job for them.

If you feel there are personal comments going against Forum Guidelines deal with those posters but why should posters who spend their time on Gransnet suffer for bad behaviour by the minority.

This is getting ridiculous. Why threaten yo throw out everyone at a party when only 2 or 3 started throwing ' the buns'.

NatashaGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 10-Mar-20 21:27:38

Hi all,

This thread has descended into a bun fight and completely derailed. Please refrain from personal attacks, otherwise we will have to pull the thread.

MawB Tue 10-Mar-20 21:11:50

I have nothing to apologise for, I did not “have a go” and as for waiting until she left I have been to enjoying a day with my daughter , lunch out and then the train journey from hell back home, taking 3 1/2hours, many stops, several changes plus a shuttle service.
I am also unwilling to apologise for not prioritising your ridiculous rants and accusations over my DD’s 45th birthday - unless you felt you could apologise for bad mouthing me and others (“squalor”) or if anybody felt I needed to.
As if.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 10-Mar-20 21:05:39

Yes, but you will never apologise for having a go although waiting till she had left. But you are not worth any more of my time when it comes down to it.

MawB Tue 10-Mar-20 21:00:49

when she left before, GNHQ, who she contacted because she didn't know how to do it first encouraged her to stay and the deleted the account for her. So she still had no knowledge of how easy it is to do
Did I read this right?
deleted the account for her
That was certainly how I read OP’s question.
So as I thought Jura did leave and presumably decided to rejoin.
This discussion is entirely circular, irrelevant and pointless.
And nobody is interpreting anything, just reading the words and not denigrating, stating a fact.
Problem with that?

Elegran Tue 10-Mar-20 20:54:30

I had just left, GG3, but you called me back by mentioning my name. I'll ignore it and stay away now that I realise that the OP has apparently succeeded in departing. I've a feeling that we may hear from her again in a while, though.

OoRoo.

MawB Tue 10-Mar-20 20:51:46

As I said, disingenuous , but no shortage of helpful advice - but then somebody spotted a mole hill and before our very eyes appeared ...a mountain!

GracesGranMK3 Tue 10-Mar-20 20:47:51

Elegran do you really need to wait for the others? Just leave the thread if that's what you want to do or are you now telling us to do that?

GracesGranMK3 Tue 10-Mar-20 20:46:24

Jura didn't make "a big thing of it" EllanVannin" she asked a question because she didn't know the answer. I rather think it's because others had her in their sights that it seems like a "big thing".

Elegran Tue 10-Mar-20 20:40:15

Correction - "So GG3 the answer to the question and achieved what she wanted, and we can leave the thread now?" should have read "Jura has received ..... etc"

"We can all leave the thread now" still stands. The original question has been answered, and the rest is just hot air.

EllanVannin Tue 10-Mar-20 20:37:16

Surely those who leave a forum, do so without making a big thing of it ?

GracesGranMK3 Tue 10-Mar-20 20:30:52

Oh, and perhaps you could tell me when MawB became the interpreter of other GN members words. I missed that.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 10-Mar-20 20:29:53

You keep doing that Baggs if it's making you happy.

Baggs Tue 10-Mar-20 20:28:52

Hammering on.

GracesGranMK3 Tue 10-Mar-20 20:13:33

So GG3 has received the answer to the question and achieved what she wanted, and we can leave the thread now?

???

GracesGranMK3 Tue 10-Mar-20 20:12:18

OP asked how to delete her account-ie deregister, not how to delete all her posts over the years.

Here we go again with the made-up truths. Yes, Jura did ask how to delete her account - but how do other posters suddenly become the interpreter of what she meant? You do not know!

She was a member under at least two other names way before I joined so I am thinking she must have learned to navigate the system to change her name or leave and rejoin.

And here comes the deliberate destruction of someone on the forum. I will tell you now that when she left before, GNHQ, who she contacted because she didn't know how to do it first encouraged her to stay and the deleted the account for her. So she still had no knowledge of how easy it is to do. But you, of course, MawB feel that making it up as you go along is equal to the truth especially, it seems, if you can denigrate someone in the process.

It may sound "disingenuous not to say melodramatic" for someone else to see not being able to leave as a breach of human rights, but why should everyone see the world as you do or otherwise be on the receiving end of your disapproval?

It's all about finding someone to attack isn't it.

SirChenjin Tue 10-Mar-20 20:09:18

I cancelled my gym membership with no problem at all - go me!

GagaJo Tue 10-Mar-20 19:45:15

Cunco, if you have a REALLY good reason, Gransnet will delete your posts. I don't know what the REALLY good reasons are, but I assume if someone is in danger of being identified and faces domestic violence etc as a result, that would count.

Callistemon Tue 10-Mar-20 19:41:51

It is so easy to join Amazon Prime by mistake but most people must have found out how to delete it now as so many people seem to join and wish they hadn't.

Is that like Gransnet?

sodapop Tue 10-Mar-20 19:38:55

You hit a nerve there Maw I accidentally ticked the Amazon Prime box on the French site. Apparently I now have to download a retraction form and post it to them Grrrrrr

Elegran Tue 10-Mar-20 19:37:07

So GG3 has received the answer to the question and achieved what she wanted, and we can leave the thread now?

MawB Tue 10-Mar-20 19:30:47

OP asked how to delete her account-ie deregister, not how to delete all her posts over the years.
She was a member under at least two other names way before I joined so I am thinking she must have learned to navigate the system to change her name or leave and rejoin. The suggestion that it is impossible and somehow breaches anybody's human rights is disingenuous not to say melodramatic.
It's not like cancelling the gym or your Amazon Prime account - now that's really hard gringrin
So from the "radio silence" I feel it is not unreasonable to assume OP has followed all the instructions offered - job done?

Cunco Tue 10-Mar-20 18:32:06

MawB It is possible to close your account. It is not possible to have all your postings deleted, at least not automatically. I am not sure how GN would respond to a special request.

Having got this wrong earlier on, I am out of here!

MawB Tue 10-Mar-20 18:25:58

Short answer to OP - no it is not impossible.
Longer answer - it is perfectly straightforward as numerous posters have explained.

Next?
