It's obvious how much you love your DH, phoenix
However, I reckon you should write a book about his foibles, but then perhaps he'd write his version too, eg what it's like to live with the ever-entertaining phoenix!
I bet life chez vous is never dull.
(see how I slipped in another bit of quasi French there?
.)

This forum, numbers, statistics and a bit of logic?
(148 Posts)Evening all, good wishes to you.
Starting by stating the obvious, this is Gransnet. By its very name, the majority of members who might have done an online search looking for forums for those of a like mind, are likely to be women. Some will be men, of course, and I'm sure they are very welcome. Often (not always!) their input can be of great value and enable a different viewpoint on the topic.
Although I have not asked GNHQ for a breakdown of figures (surely they have enough on there plate at present) chances are they might:
A) Not have them (names don't necessarily indicate gender) or:
B) Cannot release the figures due to data protection.
Now, with these things in mind, shall we look at the logic?
With more female members than male, who is more likely to be posting on forums? And (in certain circumstances, and on certain threads) WHO are they likely to be posting about?
In the main, these posts are posted with humour and affection.
Surely they can be accepted and taken as such, without being seen as a "dig" or attack, or put down?
I hope this post is taken in the spirit that it is meant.
I would book you.
Any typing teachers out there?
Well, Grandad if we were allowed people in the house it would book you to come and clean ours.
Only eco friendly products or steam cleaners, though, please.
The tiles are too much of a stretch for me - are you 6ft or over?
It has always been obvious to me phoenix that you love your husband.
Phoenix I have always been blessed with an exceptional memory, but many would say little else. I have no objection to your often humorous posts in regard to your other half.
However, those threads often then attract posts from other forum members that can contain more serious general statements inferring all men are scruffy, lazy, useless, misogynistic to which you can add almost any matter.
It is then that I often join in to defend my gender. Just as in women all men are different in their attitudes and how they look on life.
One can only imagine the reaction if us males on the forum (should there ever be enough of us) were to start a thread alleging such things as laid out above, and in that those who criticised us for such would be rightly correct.
In regard to "pouncing on posts" as you put it Phoenix, I believe that if we were to reference back you have "pounced" on quite a number of mine.
I regard to the Christmas post I believe my comment was made when you had criticised your husband in a thread you began, and the comment was made on Christmas day, but the thread, however, had become a general man-bashing thread.
However, if my comment unsettled you I apologise unreservedly, and perhaps we should draw on all that has happened for a better GN relationship in the future.
I too agree, and would like to think that I have never generalised in my posts, writing instead about the little foibles of Mr P, who incidentally I love very much, although that could be up for review if he carries on leaving his clothes on the bedroom floor!
For heavens sake, I even bought him his very own laundry thing as a joke present for his last birthday!
But I'm sorry, Grandad1943, you have many times in the past pounced on posts that have been intended to be humorous, innocuous and indeed affectionate, declaring them to be "anti man"! A while ago, you even dragged up referred to a post I had made months before regarding something I had posted about a Christmas gift I had received from Mr P!
To be honest, I actually found that post unsettling and a bit creepy, it was almost as if you had been keeping some sort of log or record of what had been posted, by who, and when.
Sodapop I know what you mean. My husband cooks and shops but thinks we have a magic washing basket that does the washing. ?
Oh please come and do mine, Grandad.
Do you use a toothbrush for the tricky bits? I'm a stickler and perfectionist, but as a mere woman, never quite manage to achieve it.?
Just a reminder that everyone is welcome on here as long as they follow guidelines - regardless of gender or whether they are grandparents or not.
We would appreciate it if everyone could now move on from this as a topic of discussion - as we say, all are equally welcome.
If anyone has an issue with a specific post because they feel it breaks our guidelines, please report in the usual way. In the meantime, please do bear in mind what we have said and appreciate that these are strange and difficult times, we are all on edge, and sometimes it's good just to take a deep breath and move on.
sodapop, just slightly off, but I have to say I love cleaning bathrooms.
With modern cleaning products, it is very easy with a bit of elbow grease and effort anyone can get everything shiny and sparkling and at the end, I always have a great sense of pride. I know from other men in our office (when it is open) that others find similar pride also.
My wife has often commented that I should have opened a business in bathroom cleaning instead of the one we have.
Truly I just love it, with Saturday or Sunday being my "top to bottom bathroom day". ?
MawB I've relented. This is the post that set me off
Oh Mon Dieu, le gelle KY, c'est nest pas pour manger. Nous sommes vraiment dans un crise mais nous mentenir le decorum
Greymar , I am literally crying with laughter...
I agree with lefthanded it's the generalisations which are annoying. Individual stories are funny and I know my husband would find them so. It's not just generalisations about men either things like " all Americans are loud and crass" etc.
My husband cooks and shops but thinks we have a magic self cleaning bathroom.
I note that the two forum members who disengaged from a thread with me but then engaged on an alternative thread which I had not entered making very degrading personal posts in regard to me could perhaps outline in this thread the reason for that action.
As I have stated those posts also contained degrading comments in regard to my wife who has never made a post on this forum and therefore is completely unknown to those members. It also involved one of those members making very degrading comments on key workers in the current crisis.
So, and with every respect would those two members care to comment on their actions as both the threads involved are still prominent to make reference too.
Perhaps if those forum members do comment on their actions and reasons why we shall begin to get to the basics of attitudes on this forum?
MawB I think you've got the wrong end of the stick. I wasn't accusing anyone, there was simply a bit of banter that started for no obvious reason in French relating to some hot cross buns I was making and KY jelly. It was totally silly and very funny. I'm not sure that I can be bothered trawling through either........
I think we need to call things as they are within this thread and this forum. There is a " considerable group" within this site that are totally anti-male. As I have stated on numerous occasions I originally arrived on GN by a genuine mistake thinking it was for all grandparents.
However, on making my first post It was inundated with criticism and insults not in regard to the matter I was posting about, but in regard to my spelling, grammar and some even being outright in telling me I should not be on this forum. The forgoing made me determined to stay and to continue to post regularly.
In the more than two years I have been a member of this forum things have greatly improved, but as stated above there are still those within this membership who will attack posts on the bases of gender rather than the issue under discussion.
There has also recently been a few new members join GN who seem intent on attacking the few men on this forum with the sole intention of drawing a reaction and getting us banned. In that, with one very old and longstanding member on the forum they have succeeded and at the present time, they appear to be attempting the same with me.
What went on in two threads in recent days has been mentioned, but I feel it gives a good example to the above. The first thread was at first good banter in which much in general was aimed at me but I was prepared to accept that in good spirit when suddenly with two joining the thread attacks on me became very personal and nasty.
I felt I defended myself well in that one of them repeatedly accused me of making accusations of Misandry against women on the thread which was a word I had not even used in the entire multi-pages of the subject under discussion.
Those two members then seem to leave that thread and I then received two PMs from members informing me that those same two persons where on an alternative thread engaged in degrading talk about me and even my wife who has never even posted on this forum. I then joined that thread and all that happened is still there for all to witness.
There is much more I could state but I will leave it there for now so as to allow for others to comment and post. Should anyone wish to enquire of me in regard to what I have stated, please accept my apologies in advance should I not reply straight away as I am working from home for our business and quite a lot is happening at the moment.
MawB I know I know!! I couldn’t care less about the French, just the unpleasantness disguised as banter. Have a good day anyway!
PS I addressed the question to Grannylaine anyway, Lucca
I give up and have idea what the problem is.
1) somebody accuses somebody of writing quasi French
2) I ask perfectly politely “what quasi French”
3) I am invited to trawl through I don’t know what threads going back to Sunday to find out for myself

I only (as they say) asked!
I apologise MawB for not “quoting “ ....... sore eyes today, don’t know why.
Callestermon thanks for your comment. I’m sorry too it would have been SO nice if it had happened but I don’t begrudge, for a moment anyone else’s lovely marriage . Enjoy I say
Lucca oh, I see!
Misunderstanding , I thought you were questioning our rather rusty French
Although I do know some on the thread are fluent, I am very out of practice.
I withdrew from the thread in the end. It was becoming too unpleasant for me.
I did join in originally and I know Granddad was initially enjoying it
, but the tone changed and I decided not to post anymore.
You could just quote it * Grannylaine* <sigh>
Who wants to trawl through innumerable unidentified threads going back to Sunday?
Oh I wouldn't claim to be fluent, I'm extremely rusty!
I wish Google translate had been available when I was at uni, it would have made life so much simpler!
Oh you lot! Do I have to spoon feed you?
Start from about Sunday 29th @ 10.25 It was Greymar that started it I think or possibly Marydoll (though I should point out that Marydoll is not quasi AT ALL, she is very fluent)
The KY quips are worth searching out....
And the bit where Marydoll was accused of using Google translate now I come to think of it......
