I suppose it’s a bit misleading calling it gransnet, but I always knew there was men on here due to a couple of the usernames I actually welcome their points of view

Rufus2 I believe there are a considerable number of the male gender on this forum but they do not declare themselves as such (craven cowards). ?

I have in my over two years as an active member of this forum tried to assist two such members to "come out" and declare their gender but sadly to no avail as there nerve sadly let them down at the very last minute. ??

The above can become a desperate situation for some in this day and age of great openness. ???

Furret He died! He was a lovely Border Collie, very affectionate and intelligent and I simply continued in my usual role as No.2 in his memory'
Incidentally, I've moved up the social ladder from Fosters to Shiraz! If the weather is hot, as it sometimes is, a "coldie" straight out of the frig. a Queensland beer, XXXX of which Callistemon would approve!

Furret your post at 15.58 saying that sometimes R2 gets a bit frisky that made me laugh. I thought the post of Rufus2 to RamblingRose22 was getting close to a serenade and maybe he is a cheeky one to watch, or like you say too much of the Fosters. I do not think I have heard of Michael on Gransnet threads.

I've asked GNHQ a few times to change the name to include Grandads but no response.
From another viewpoint - I belong to a WW2 forum which is male dominated.
Main Mod. takes part a lot and keeps on calling us guys or blokes or lads etc which irritates me.

We also have Michael, grumppa and others.

Furret, stating that men should not be on this forum, has been very common on this forum, and although now less common it still is stated at times even in these more enlightened times on Gransnet.

However, I feel there may be disagreement within the management of Gransnet on how the site approaches its future. That was, I believe, demonstrated last week with the site generated "please read" thread which must have a huge disappointment to whoever initiated the thread.

My answer to the above is quite simple, I came onto this forum by way of a complete mistake. I was reviewing discussion forums and whether I clicked on the wrong sign up page I am not sure. However, having signed up I immediately made a first post which was met with an absolute wall of Misandry.

Some mocked my spelling and choice of wording while others simply stated in a very outright manner that I as a man should not be on this forum.

The above made me very determined to remain on this forum, if only to unsettle those who had made such remarks.

So, with that I am still here with the same determination to remain. ??

It is strange how we view what titles we are given.
Growing up we had Granny and she was much loved by all the children in the family.
The thing was she was always regarded as perhaps old as her own children (my aunties and uncles) were always around as well. She dressed well but when going out she wore a hat with a hat pin in. I just saw her as being ancient and often had the thought what it must be like to be so old

I think that when someone says GrandMa I get a picture of my old Granny. Maybe I should find a hat and get a hat pin.

3nanny6, isnt it strange how different we all are? Nan, nana and nanny sound ancient to me - Little old ladies in rocking chairs with their knitting. My nan seemed very old when I was young.

My granny was elegant, sophisticated and had a sports car!!

You know what? Now it's been mentioned, I actually like the sound of Grandsnet better than Gransnet.
To me, it both looks and sounds slightly less condescending or 'twee' - but I'm prepared to accept that most people might not feel the same!
