Please note everyone!

Please stop saying things like ' thank you ladies'.

I'm happy to be one of the 'guys'.
The dictionary says this noun describes a group of people of either sex, so I presume that includes most/all of us on the site. ☺

That said, I suspect that the words 'either sex' could themselves spark a debate in these gender fluid times!

Nan grin

As long as the men on here don’t start addressing us as ‘babes’
(Fat chance eh?)?

At the beginning of the Lockdown someone who I had never seen before gave me details of who to contact if I needed food. Very kind.

HOWEVER she then said to me ‘Are there any other ‘elderly’ people living near here’. ? I could I have bopped her one. I’m 73 try to dress well in a reasonably fashionable way, always wear make up, go to Keep Fit, walk every day and have my own teeth.

I have now seen the funny side of it, well just about !

Does it matter what you call me as long as you are not nasty? Hunni, my lovely, lady, old pal even Ma'am have all been used in the past....I enjoy the conversation!

Not sure about grandee, here’s the definition from Collins.

Sparkling Wed 08-Jul-20 06:47:27

Welbeck I like the idea of being called Grandee, I don't take offence at being called a lady , it's well meant.

Sparkling Wed 08-Jul-20 06:45:31

It's nice to have a mans perspective, so hope we get more, all welcome.

Lucca Wed 08-Jul-20 06:39:03

Exactly Flying. “ Thanks everyone“. “What do other people think ?”
I find “ladies” a bit grating too, and patronising when used by men, but I’m probably being daft.

FlyingHandbag Wed 08-Jul-20 01:40:26

I just say everyone or all (as in "Hi all". X

MissAdventure Wed 08-Jul-20 00:28:58

grin

welbeck Wed 08-Jul-20 00:22:53

talk of ladies reminds me of those baffling, or ambitious, signs seen in village/church halls:
after rinsing out milk bottles will ladies please stand upside down in the sink.

welbeck Wed 08-Jul-20 00:14:58

a ugandan person i knew used to refer to older people generally as, the grandees, which i really like.

Curlywhirly Tue 07-Jul-20 23:10:33

I have no preference as to what you call me, it doesn't really matter (as long as it's not offensive!)

MissAdventure Tue 07-Jul-20 20:53:09

And irritating, too. grin

Peardrop50 Tue 07-Jul-20 20:44:15

MissAdventure

Mine would probably change it to Gnats. grin

Not far off the mark at times, some of us can bite.

FarNorth Tue 07-Jul-20 20:30:25

I tend to use 'people'.
I don't think that one's been mentioned on this thread so far.
Also GNers. Once you've typed it a couple of times, your predictive text can cope.

Peardrop50 Tue 07-Jul-20 20:21:50

Lovely to have a mix of the sexes to get differing viewpoints. There must be a large number of widowers too who welcome a chat about coping with grandchildren or other family members, awkward friends or an array of problems. Not a fan of 'ladies' or 'guys' so over to you fellow gransnetters, mmm, bit long winded.

Galaxy Tue 07-Jul-20 20:18:38

Yes we know kitty. Its hard to miss.

Bluebellwould Tue 07-Jul-20 20:17:47

Why not the ‘grands’ which acknowledges the level above/before parents, it’s unisex and most importantly superior ? as of course we all are.

Marydoll Tue 07-Jul-20 20:15:48

We had an education officer who used to address us as: Youse lassies! Our HT, also in the room was male. grin

kittylester Tue 07-Jul-20 20:15:32

My point was that there are men as well.

SueDonim Tue 07-Jul-20 20:12:53

Is ‘you lot’ acceptable? grin

Marydoll Tue 07-Jul-20 20:11:08

Looks like we will never agree. grin We all have different views and opinions, that's what makes GN so interesting and mostly entertaining , dear posters. wink

MissAdventure Tue 07-Jul-20 20:09:02

I love folk. smile
