Troll hunting and thread deletions

(721 Posts)

Hello
We wanted to clear a few things up:
1) We don't allow troll hunting on the forums. If you are worried someone may not be genuine, please email us directly or report any concerning posts to us. We will deal with it. Making accusations on the forums is not helpful and could, if incorrect, lead to possibly vulnerable people feeling victimised. We will have to delete threads that accuse other users of being trolls.
2) PMs. We take a very dim view of this being abused. If you receive an unwanted or unkind PM please report it to us. We can take a look and deal with it. You are also able to block other users so that they are no longer able to PM you. Please use this. And apologies in advance if this does happen to you. It's not nice and not what Gransnet is about at all.
3) Despite what it feels like tonight hmm we do not enjoy deleting threads. We have a handful of guidelines, all there with the purpose of making the threads better, and more welcoming for users. We are doing our best and rely on you to report things to us that seem concerning, so thank you for caring so much about the site and reporting anything that looks suspicious.

Thank you
GNHQ

Just popped in after several days away. Looks like there’s been some fun and games. Hard to get the gist as there’s so many deleted posts but totally agree with POGS.

Callistemon, what can I say! I'm overwhelmed by this award.

I would like to thank the supermarket where I bought it, the backroom people who cut and wrapped it (you know who you are wink!), the guys who put it on the shelf, Doris on the checkout who scanned it sooo smoothly, gosh, well, just about everyone who helped along the way to me getting this award, thank you all so much!

Just sorry that there will be no after award party, but hey, you know how it is with this Covid thing, but as soon as life gets back to normal, the jelly and ice cream will be on the table!

Mwah!

You could have really made Phoenix laugh ( not!!) by putting her thread in the quote box and then added your xxx
She loved that gesture ?

It is now after 5pm but I am a laydee, unlike most of you lot.

kitty sorry, but Saturday to me is just another day of the week, especiually now I am retired.

I no longer go to the Argy, I may catch something there and it would not be Covid.

Shame that you never caught the ‘work bug’ there, I never saw you do a hands turn in the kitchen or clean the lavs!?

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 10:10:43

lemongrove as I said before, I am a laydee. One hires staff to do work like that surely? Anyway, I do not drink spirits and the coffee there would probably have killed me so I thought it better to stay at home.

Sorry, I do not know how to do the quotes. Should I learn?

Chewbacca Sun 23-Aug-20 10:44:49

Nooooooooo! grin

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 12:04:55

But Chewbacca surely it would make anything I write more important and there is always at least one person to quote anything and everything I write.

I will ask phoenix I am sure she would not mind as we are sort of friends online.

this quote will appear at the top of your message

I bet it won’t

Oopsadaisy4 Sun 23-Aug-20 12:28:40

Well I’ll go to the top of our stairs !!

Italics too!

I’m too good for this place

I’m so forgetful, I’m not sure if I’ve found a piece of rope or lost my horse.....

Everything you write is important because you are a laydee, Charleygirl.
The rest of us are here to do your bidding.
Take no notice of Chewbacca, she sits at the back of the class and stops us swots working.

Callistemon please, please, you are not here to do my bidding.

I am losing the plot with these posts or threads, please could somebody explain the difference because recently my poor birdbrain has had to work overhard, not being too rude or sarcastic.

As I said elsewhere, Waitrose is calling.

Oopsadaisy4 Sun 23-Aug-20 13:16:12

A thread is made up of individual posts.

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 13:22:56

Thanks for that so I am posting to you on a thread. Birdbrain has now got it- for how long remains an unknown factor.

Elegran Sun 23-Aug-20 14:11:35

Think of a thread as a chain of posts one after another.

Callistemon Sun 23-Aug-20 14:23:02

Stretching into infinity. Well, up to 1,000 of them.

Possibly, DiscoGran, but we are genuine posters, having a bit of fun together!

kittylester Sun 23-Aug-20 16:20:21

Inane?

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Aug-20 16:22:49

That is the difference and our language is civil and for all of the years I have "known" these posters it always has been.

Marydoll Sun 23-Aug-20 16:44:38

.....and we are kind and respectful to each other.

Lucca Sun 23-Aug-20 16:45:51

Message deleted by Gransnet as it repeats a deleted post. Here's a link to our Talk Guidelines.

I agree Marydoll. I do hope you have rested (fat chance) and you are now feeling marginally better.
