Troll hunting and thread deletions

Hello
We wanted to clear a few things up:
1) We don't allow troll hunting on the forums. If you are worried someone may not be genuine, please email us directly or report any concerning posts to us. We will deal with it. Making accusations on the forums is not helpful and could, if incorrect, lead to possibly vulnerable people feeling victimised. We will have to delete threads that accuse other users of being trolls.
2) PMs. We take a very dim view of this being abused. If you receive an unwanted or unkind PM please report it to us. We can take a look and deal with it. You are also able to block other users so that they are no longer able to PM you. Please use this. And apologies in advance if this does happen to you. It's not nice and not what Gransnet is about at all.
3) Despite what it feels like tonight hmm we do not enjoy deleting threads. We have a handful of guidelines, all there with the purpose of making the threads better, and more welcoming for users. We are doing our best and rely on you to report things to us that seem concerning, so thank you for caring so much about the site and reporting anything that looks suspicious.

Thank you
GNHQ

Marydoll that's not on. You must report it to GNHQ.

Please be aware they may delete your post of 16.51, as you may have identified another member.

No, *Grannynannywanny^ and you werent never gunna get one for your English neether!

Marydoll Mon 24-Aug-20 16:51:08

Dear all, today after everything that has been said on this thread, I received an upsetting PM from a regular poster after I posted about my daughter's wonderful garden wedding a few weeks ago.
It totally ruined my day to the seaside with my husband, who was trying to cheer me up, as my life is basically rubbish at the moment!

You can read it hear if you are interested.

Pantglas I have never "mounted" anything in the drawing room! We don't have one! However we do have a suiting room.

I will be mounting something on Wednesday.

phoenix Mon 24-Aug-20 16:38:46

kitty are you thinking of Veuve Clicquot, the champagne label?

I got 2 cases (when a case was 12 bottles!) for my 18th birthday!

Grannynannywanny Mon 24-Aug-20 16:31:20

Pantglas2 I remember those lessons. I had just joined Miss Marydoll’s class. I was very excited to see if we worked hard we might get a stiffgit. But my maffs wasn’t gud nuff for one.
I’m still hoping to get one sometime and I’ll happily mount it anywhere in my house?

kittylester Mon 24-Aug-20 16:30:12

Is the Clique label a white or red wine, phoenix?

Lucca Mon 24-Aug-20 16:28:33

“ I of course always mounted mine in the bedroom although some may have done theirs in the drawing room.....”
Oh no are we back to Phoenix’s love life

Pantglas2 Mon 24-Aug-20 16:23:35

I recall that Gillybob used to call them Stiffgits (say “certificates” quickly without enunciating the syllables properly) in Miss’s Maffs Klass when we were all deliberately misspelling/misunderstanding every post (for a lark!)

I of course always mounted mine in the bedroom although some may have done theirs in the drawing room.....?

phoenix Mon 24-Aug-20 16:13:11

Sorry to be voice of reason, shock, yes, I know it's a first, but feel that we ought to clear this up to avoid the Clique label!

My understanding is that a "stiff git" came about due to a typo or fat finger episode, and was meant to be a "stiff g&t", as in gin and tonic.

"And, so it came to pass that the wise people of GN took the stiff git to their bosom, (be those bosoms large or small) and embraced it, and henceforth it replaced the stiff g&t that was previously lauded and treasured by some (although not the drinkers of Chablis, Cava and other such hallowed beverages) and the members drank of it, and it was good"

Callistemon Mon 24-Aug-20 16:00:12

No-one gets a stiff git until they've gone round the Magic Square.
It's a bit like the Magic Roundabout but it's square and the Magic Roundabout is, well, it's round I fink.

Elegran Mon 24-Aug-20 15:59:49

Kitty, it is sometimes called a Susstifickit. A GCE is a Susstifickit given to those who have done good (generally, anyway) when examined about their ejukayshun.

Pantglas2 Mon 24-Aug-20 15:54:50

Here you go kitty and nankate......??. One each - for mounting in the bedroom, of course ?

kittylester Mon 24-Aug-20 15:51:50

NanKate

Now Kitty can you tell me what a ‘stiff git’ is please ?

It's one of those special pieces of paper that have your name and what you have won in fancy writing..................well, I think that's what it is!![blush}

Charleygirl5 Mon 24-Aug-20 15:39:38

Lucca it is not a word which comes into my head although I think I am being brainwashed reading certain threads on GN!

NanKate Mon 24-Aug-20 15:39:15

Now Kitty can you tell me what a ‘stiff git’ is please ?

Lucca Mon 24-Aug-20 15:22:06

Impressed With a lifetime without using the f word. ??

kittylester Mon 24-Aug-20 14:18:41

Does it count if your thread is deleted because another was?

I hope so because I have never had another deleted and I now want a rite of passage as well as a stiff git.

Chewbacca Mon 24-Aug-20 13:25:59

Post deletions is a rite of passage Charleygirl! A bit like the first time you walk into the Argy and stagger back out on your knees 4 hours later!

Elegran Mon 24-Aug-20 09:55:54

I was deleted three times in one thread for citing a parallel situation where reactions to a similarly trivial and innocently-encountered trigger were not the same as the one by the subject of the thread.

Charleygirl5 Mon 24-Aug-20 09:31:49

lemongirl no- I was mean spirited for not going along with the (stupid) flow. I was sticking up for myself and one other poster who was having a hard time and I was not allowing that.

I was convent educated and my father never swore so it was a revelation to me when I entered the big bad world. I have never used the F word in my life.

lemongrove Mon 24-Aug-20 09:23:26

Charleygirl ! Deleted three times? Using bad language again I expect, which is why we threw you out of The Argy.?

Charleygirl5 Mon 24-Aug-20 08:46:22

I was deleted at least 3 times, I suppose there is a first for everything.

I have a hair appointment today- I cannot believe it. The cost has gone up £10 which is not so good but I have done such a marvellous job myself since March I suppose I have easily saved that money.

Lovely sunshine here and it is normal weather.

cornergran Mon 24-Aug-20 05:13:23

I’m just bewildered by the whole thread lucca. But then often am smile

Lucca Mon 24-Aug-20 00:17:43

I’ve been deleted, this is why I am bewildered ?
