The @ function still doesn't work!

It is used on Mumsnet and is very useful. After I comment on a thread I don’t make a point of going back to that thread repeatedly.

For example on a gardening thread I might state that Comfrey makes an excellent fertiliser. Two days later someone writes saying Esspee how do you make it?

I don’t see the post so I don’t reply. The questioner thinks I’ve ignored her whereas I would have been happy to provide instructions had I been aware of the question.

If instead we had the @ working the questioner would type @Esspee how do you make it? Gransnet would send me an email saying “you have been mentioned in a post” and by clicking the link I would immediately be taken to the post.

It is a great aid to communication and if they have it working on Mumsnet there is no reason why we don’t have it on Gransnet.

Earlier I mentioned I was expecting some meltdowns when it eventually is up and running. That is based on some of the paranoid posts since the quote feature has come into use.

I just changed to the mobile site and there it was!

Thank you for the explanation, @Esspee. That’ll be a very useful feature if/when we get it.

Apparently that used to work on GN but has fallen into disrepair.
Just another way that we're treated as the poor relation to MN.

chewbacca sorry to argue but I use the mobile site always and there us no @ but if I change to the desktop site there it is

I wonder if it did work, would we get fed up with being alerted any time we were mentioned in a post?

I am new to Gransnet and have tried using the @ as I thought I was being rude by not responding to people who have kindly taken time to give me their opinions!

Why don't you just highlight the persons name as I have done yours. Posters will see that.

Netty13, just put an asterisk before and after the poster's name, no spaces and it will be in bold.
Like this * Netty * , but no spaces.

On MN if you @ someone they get an email telling them that they have been mentioned.
It's very useful - I've wondered for a while why it isn't in use here.

I do not know about the @ sign but all my gransnet emails that came each day are now taking themselves to the spam folder why would they be doing that also another email I get from the bible group also takes itself to the spam folder it's most annoying.

This isn't a function we currently have on the site, so it shouldn't be showing the '@' option on the mobile site, as it doesn't work. We've let our tech team know and they will remove the button.

No thought of getting it to work then?

Clearly it worked at some point in the past as I've had people tell me how to use it, expecting it to work.

It's great to realise how GN is the poor relation of MN.

3nanny6, if you go into your email settings, you should be able sort this.
