The @ function still doesn't work!

It is used on Mumsnet and is very useful. After I comment on a thread I don’t make a point of going back to that thread repeatedly.

For example on a gardening thread I might state that Comfrey makes an excellent fertiliser. Two days later someone writes saying Esspee how do you make it?

I don’t see the post so I don’t reply. The questioner thinks I’ve ignored her whereas I would have been happy to provide instructions had I been aware of the question.

If instead we had the @ working the questioner would type @Esspee how do you make it? Gransnet would send me an email saying “you have been mentioned in a post” and by clicking the link I would immediately be taken to the post.

It is a great aid to communication and if they have it working on Mumsnet there is no reason why we don’t have it on Gransnet.

Thank you for this thread. I’ve been trying to use the @ function to reply to individual comments. I thought it was my incompetence - I’m reassured I’m not as daft as I feared.

BlueBelle it's one of the 4 little icons under the comments box; next to the paperclip icon. If/when it's in action, it will mean that you click on that and type the name if a poster and it will alert them to the fact that you've mentioned them. But it isn't working. And I can't see the point of it anyway but there you go.....

Does it matter if someone has mentioned you in a post though? I'm not sure what the point of that is?

I reckon when it is up and working there will initially be a meltdown when some people are notified they have been mentioned in a post.
I use it on Mumsnet and love that it warns me that someone has referred to something I said otherwise I might miss something important.
