On my computer, if I right click inside the message box there is a menu with 'emoji' at the top. There you will find lots more symbols you can use!
Here's a heart for Valentine's Day! ?

Never knew that. Thank you. thanks. I've got a MacBook so no mouse.. Found pressing two fingers on the pad does same thing.?

I forget to preview sometimes. Amazed at how many errors I do and if a bold or underline etc hasn't work.

Good luck polomint and WW010 smile

I put *at beginning and end of name but it doesn't make word bold?

Check there are no spaces between the * *s and the word you want to make bold.

And preview

I've not long joined and another gransnetter told me to put * before and after the name to make it bold. I cant answer your other question, sorry, as I dont know how to do that

Thank you. I’ve wondered how to that.

If it works she said sceptically ?

You know what? If you scroll down an inch or so from the box in which you are writing your message you will find instructions for how to do the small amount of formatting that Gnet provides.

They all work. But, you mustn't leave any space between the formatting character (the *, or ^ or whatever) and the word or sentence you want to format. And no spaces at the end, either. If you do, the format won't succeed. Always preview to save embarrassment...

That quote function is fine for quoting short messages, but a real pain for long ones and exchanges where long messages get embedded into long messages and posts get bigger and bigger as people quote and requote.

As someone said earlier, it's best to just copy and paste the bit of the post you want to reply to; most people italicise this by putting a ^ at each end. And mention the name of the person you're replying to, with a * at each end of it (no spaces!) Oh, and if the piece you're C&P ing is in paragraphs you have to format each paragraph.

There are also some instructions for smilies, and you can insert other standard ones by left clicking for emojis if you're on a desktop (I haven't a clue how to do it for phones or tablets)

hulahoop, it doesn’t look bold in the box where you compose your reply, but if you use the ‘preview message’ button, you should be able to check that you’ve got it right. You should see the name in bold in the preview.

Juliet27 Sun 14-Feb-21 13:32:53

Oh sorry..missed that you’d added at end too

Juliet27 Sun 14-Feb-21 13:32:15

Should be put at the end too

If you look at the bottom of the page, it shows how to do Smileys and how to emphasise as in bold, underline etc.

BlueBelle Sun 14-Feb-21 13:18:57

Just copy and paste the quote it takes up so much less a space than the quote feature that pulls up a big grey box

BlueBelle Sun 14-Feb-21 13:17:18

Just copy and paste the quote much neater than that long winded grey box
If you want to put a name in bold just put the asterisk on your keyboard * at the start and end of the word with no spaces WWO10

polomint Sun 14-Feb-21 12:59:12

Oh good...it worked

How do I reply to a post and indicate a previous posters name on it? Ive seen it in bold on others posts but not sure how to do it (it’s not as simple as just doing bold font is it?).
And, I’ve seen posters quoting just a part of a previous post. How do you do that please? I tried to delete bits but it threw me out (on iPad). Thanks.
