Hello
Prompted by the 'Boris and Carrie have got married!' thread.

The wedding was on Saturday, and the thread was started when the news broke on Saturday evening.

The thread was advertised in the newsletter midmorning today, Tuesday.

Why not Sunday, or even Monday?

We are onto 18 pages and it's all been said. Posters are repeating stuff over and over again. It's unreadable.

Does the GN management put any thought at all into this type of thing?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 01-Jun-21 12:59:06

I think there is an algorithm which puts up the threads with the most traffic

GNHQ are in my good books at the moment as I posted a wrong photo on Sunday (showing GC and others faces) by accident, it was taken down minutes after I reported it ???

That's good to hear. GG13
I always check my photos twice in case I've selected a personal one!

An algorithm?
I think that it's more likely to be someone wfh's cat. ?

Might have been an oversight, someone was poorly and so on. Most of us have slipped up at work occasionally, I know I have.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Jun-21 13:52:19

Similar things happen regularly Jacky
I'm not being nasty, honestly, it just seems like there is very little interest from the management about the site

Alegrias1 Tue 01-Jun-21 14:12:44

Its an algorithm. Just like the one which decides what goes in the "Trending" box.

Jaxjacky Tue 01-Jun-21 14:14:21

I don’t know how many people ‘manage’ the site, what their responsibilities are or anything. I’ve opted out of newsletters as I am on most days and can search for topics of particular interest. But I’m happy how it works for me, other people may well have a different perspective/expectations.

Maybe it's being run by Boris Johnson

Jaxjacky Tue 01-Jun-21 14:37:50

JaneJudge or Dominic Cummings to make a point ?

Today's headlining thread wasn't even on the 'Active' list.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 10:43:44

In fact, all three of them weren't.

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 10:44:48

And yes, I am aware that I am a boring so and so smile

Alegrias1 Sun 06-Jun-21 10:49:55

Let's be boring together smile

I don't get the email; what were the three headline threads?

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 10:50:43

All three advertised threads are now in the top five, which shows that the newsletter really does provide traffic to those threads mentioned

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 10:53:02

Ooh thanks Alegrias! I've got a mate now! ?

Headlining - When sexism and ageism collide (something like that)

Stork versus Butter

Front Gardens

Alegrias1 Sun 06-Jun-21 10:54:31

That's quite an esoteric selection of popular threads grin

FannyCornforth Sun 06-Jun-21 10:59:36

All from about four or five days ago confused
Perhaps the algorithm is going backwards...

Hello - the top threads are based on those with the highest page views from the previous day. It looks like this one gained some traction on Sunday and Monday. We take your point, though, that in terms of news, it was a bit old by Tuesday.

Doodledog Tue 08-Jun-21 17:50:51

What difference does it make? That is a serious question - I have never understood why people set so much store by the newsletter, or why they wait for it to arrive before logging on. You can just come to the site and see what is trending, or what interests you. It won't necessarily be the thread with the most views.

Chestnut Tue 08-Jun-21 17:59:45

I don't think the threads with the most traffic are always the best or most interesting because as already said, people pile in without reading the previous messages and just repeat the same thing over and over again. It's may be a subject that draws people to comment but that isn't always a good thing.

lemsip Tue 08-Jun-21 18:36:31

I come straight to the site and see what's active.
