With respect Elderly Person I will withdraw the term “mansplaining” but substitute patronising
Perhaps you need to recognise that some grannies do not require egg-sucking tutorials.

I have never understood the word 'patronising'.

I have been accused of it and heard of others being accused of it, but I have never understood what it means.

Oh dear!

Well, I have always liked to think of myself as being a kind and helpful person.

It’s a beautiful day EP why not have a little walk in the sunshine And clear your head you’re really over worrying all this massively

I have simply replied to being characterised as mansplaining.

If someone makes a characterisation of someone and the target does not agree with it, then the person is, in my opinion, right to contradict it. Even if deemed pedantic and so on.

If someone publishes a comment about someone then it is a Matter of Public Interest and the target is permitted to respond.

To be fair, EP you have gone to great lengths to explain things which have been self-evident to most members of GN and of whom the vast majority are female.
In addition the system has worked well enough for the years I and others have been members - allowing for the occasional moan or glitch.
If it ain’t broke - don’t fix it.

I accept that I have rambled on, I do tend to explain things from first principles in a structured way, but I contend that that is just how I always am.

I feel that describing it as mansplaining simply because I am male and many of the readers are female is unfair and simply not the fact of the matter because I treat people as equals.

Sorry, but I cannot understand this post. What’s wrong with just posting, well done, I agree or whatever or is that too easy?

Well said BlueBelle

Hear hear. Lisagran
I neither need nor welcome much of this mansplaining.

Is the use of the word 'mansplaining' unfair here?

Yes, I am male, you are female, and I have expressed my opinions in posts.

Yet the word 'mansplaining' implies disrespect for the woman by the man and treating her as inferior on the basis that she is a woman, and I like to think that I have been courteous and treated everybody participating in this discussion with respect and as equals.

Mind elsewhere!

Callistemon Tue 03-Aug-21 13:36:37

Ok, fine, just a bit concerned really.

Off out now - now catch ya later!

I shall say this only once .......

Is this a thread about a thread?

No it is not.

It is a thread solely to make prominent a statement by a lady at GNHQ: a statement that is of wide applicability: a statement that if only available many pages into a thread might well not be seen by as many people as it may be seen by being first post in a new thread with an appropriately specific title.

“Peace and love” ?! Wow, takes me back to the 60s……….

FannyCornforth Tue 03-Aug-21 12:07:22

Why on earth was my post deleted?!
Shall I take it really personally and start a thread (or two) about it?

Kalu Tue 03-Aug-21 11:56:37

Has Mick been given a position at GNHQ?? Chaos will reign if he is not available to open the GM thread!

Jaxjacky Tue 03-Aug-21 11:54:21

It is a thread about a thread, a bit like when an OP posts to their own fading thread to reactivate it.

‘Not sure what’s going on here…’ says Michael

It’s like when the teacher pops their head around the door when the kids are being silly during wet playtime…smile

Let it go......let it go..... la la la la

MichaelGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 03-Aug-21 11:37:06

Hi all. Not quite sure what's going on here but if you have any concerns about a post or poster then please do report. And if you want to report to nominate excellent threads and exemplary behaviour then it's also fine to let us know : )
We might even put them in the GN newsletter.
Peace and love,
GNHQ
