black rectangles in headings

What are they for?
There's one on the Three cheers for St George thread and I've seen a few others around too this morning.
Just curious.

I think that there are certain things that the ‘headings’ bit can’t cope with (poor love)
Such as it can’t do bold (you always get the little * instead) and I think that there are several emojis that it can’t handle, and replaces with the rectangle.

I can see the flags on both threads, I think it’s more to do with the device you are using to access GN which doesn’t recognise emojis.

I can see the flags on both threads, I think it’s more to do with the device you are using to access GN which doesn’t recognise emojis.

Yes, they show as flags on my device too
